Another anon here, but the point of the anime was to show that all the affords to change history would be pointless by the end, no matter how much they tried. The author used the shota sage's words to tell readers that people should move on and find their own happiness instead of doing pointless things like trying to change established facts. Even if Togame somehow managed to success, the auto correcting force of history would make things right as they should be as the end, just like how the shogunate still survived despise the shogun getting killed.

not the same anon, but I'd argue that the immense loss and suffering that the characters go through on their quest for revenge leaves the actually success, were it actually achieved, feeling hollow and pointless.
It was the fight for revenge that gave them purpose, often a damaging and harmful purpose, but most of the characters don't have much left if their revenge is orchestrated.
"You can't un-desertify the town" is one of those early examples from the show.

The closest we get to seeing a character who actuqlly gets revenge is Shichika after he kills Emonzaemon and the Shogun, and he goes from being auicidal to having rekindled enough of a deaire to live that he wants to now travel and map Japan like him and Togame once talked about doing - though given he kills neither of them actually fir revenge, I'm not counting it.

While they were traveling together Togame enjoyed being with Shichika more than getting progress on the sword collection. She even mentions something like this when they were on the snow mountain and they were about to freeze to death. I think she said something like he taught her that falling in love and having babies was the most important part of life or something. And although you don't count Shichika's revenge I think that example in fact helps my point because Shichika wasn't obsessed with revenge this allowed him to be happy in the end.

No upstanding father would want his daughter to pursue a path of revenge that would eventually lead to her downfall. Since in case Togame manages to achieve her revenge, it means she would betray each and every body dear to her, including Shichika, who is not only her tool, but her father's murderer's son too, meaning someone who has to die for her revenge to be complete.
