The authors can be a little more ingenious, but as Magic has to be Mana and mind dependent rather than an extension of physics, the most believable form of an advanced magic should actually resemble computer code: then why should it not have the familiar interface?
Whether the telecommunication device runs on magic or physics, the eventual interface design would be pretty similar until the user becomes an electronic or magical being that is.

Mice: Good against well armored enemy but shit against a light armored sword man or bowmen.
Shield: Large shield blocks sight. Reduces your mobility severely. A way to die in a small scale close quarter combat.
Bow and arrows: Very effective but not usable in a dungeon.
Rapier / Sabre: Not enough stopping power. On a 1v1 unarmored duel, an excellent choice, but when charged by armored mobs, you would only inflict shallow cuts on the enemy while they can chop you into two.
For raiding, a sword or dagger is a reasonably good choice. Spear, chain, nets, or blow darts would be better under some circumstances, but they have weaknesses too and won't look good when animated.

You can't just go "its /tg/" because it has mechanics that are present in both. There's no reason for them to be taken from tabletop games rather than jRPGs which are way more popular. Your average nip anime watcher has more experience with console RPGs and such rather than tabletop roleplaying. Especially now that there are many series where they mention games specifically with the MCs being gamers and the world being literally a game it's safe to assume it's trying to copy those. I don't see anyone in anime sitting round a table with friend and actually roleplaying. Also, try calming your tits.
People were writing fanfiction about themselves/a character who totally isn't meant to represent them getting sucked into their favorite fictional worlds ages before this became a thing.
This is just more and more people realizing there's a market for that kind of stuff. And the MMORPG elements are meant to evoke a real world, technological, realistic feeling in a setting that would otherwise be completely distanced from reality, and in doing so connect with the kind of people who would pass off any other more traditional fantasy stories, as well as drag in the kind of audience that's more interested in video games than in LN/manga/anime.
