A lot of people didn't get or understand the message.
They interpret it as being "if you don't have talent then you will never git gud" but that's not what the show is about.
The actual message is closer to "you should play to have fun and enjoy the sport, and if you have an actual talent for it AND you enjoy it, then don't hold back."

Rotoscope meme. It was otherwise generic but had some enjoyable moments. I couldn't reconcile my understanding of why they left out the last game between them and the fact I really just wanted to watch the whole thing, leaving me ultimately disappointed.
I liked the unique art style and the Chinese player's supercilious character, but it was ultimately boring and didn't have enough emphasis on gameplay and technique. dropped 5 episodes in
What everyone said about backlash and an artstyle you have to get used to, but also the real plot takes quite a while to actually form itself. While I really loved it and the last three episodes had me in tears, the artstyle and pace demand a vote of trust.

Actually there is a reason why that is. Everybody knows shows that are discussed the most become the most cancer because crossboarders come and so do shitposters. The best threads have been shows with a small too normal following. You would know this if you were not so new.
I don't know I just watched the first episode and I really liked it so I saw the whole thing. I honestly expected extreme exaggerations in terms of the actual sport (like most sports anime do) but it was surprisingly tame in that aspect, it was good for a whole other reason.
The only thing that sort of bothered me was that it felt like it ended too abruptly, I would have preferred at least an entire episode dedicated to the epilogue to give us a better glimpse on how each character ended up.

I enjoyed everything bout the anime for what it is worth. Even the animation, while crude it really does give the feel of being in a shitty place and clawing yourself back out of it. As well as its very expressive.
The message was pretty good too, about acceptance, work, life and whatnot.
