>Kawahara did say that he was told as long as he keeps writing, A-1 pictures will animate anything he writes. They didn't exactly say they would animate Progressive, but Kawahara did go on to say he'll be writing Progressive for probably another 30 years so that will give us plenty to look forward to.

Are you ready for 30 more years of SAO?
>>
More porn
Yay
>>
>>139211766
Anime is saved once again.
>>
>>139211766
Given that he said 30 years, instead of something like 70, will Progressive probably end some time after Sachi's death, or something?
Or will Kawahara start pushing out two volumes a year?

On that note, Progressive Anime when?
>>
How much can you even jerk off to your own characters? I think now story I would create would ever be great enough to to writemore of it for 30 years. I mean he isn't even the slow mangaka type whose manga just never ends, he actually plans to write the same shit for 30 years from the very beginning.
Not that Progressive is bad, it's better than the rest of SAO, but that doesn't make it some masterpiece worth the amount of novels he's planning to do. I still read it but I wouldn't wonder if it would become too boring to follow with vol. 10 or something. Even 3 was already a bit weaker than 1 and 2 in my opinion.

>>139211766

>Sword Art Online
>the novels have been in the top 10 most sold since five years ago
>two years in first place
>anime dubbed to every relevant language in the world
>BDs and merchandise selling more than what 99.9% of seasonal animes sell
>easily one of the 20 most successful and influential animes of all time

I know you're butthurt because it's not 'muh super kewl seekrit anime' anymore, but you're retarded and have shit taste. Go back to blogging about how every popular anime is shit and keep watching seasonal light novel adaptations, I'll enjoy my 30 years of SAO.

OP here. I am not at all mad about this. I just find fun to poke at those who might be. Also nice to have 30 more years of Argo.
>>
>>139212709

>>
I will never understand why people keep hanging onto their first series so much for such a long time. I hate it when good ideas that could be used for new series get shoehorned into one of thousand arcs of a series that already exists, just to use the same fucking MC again.
>>
>>139213068
Well, Kawahara did originally stop, back in 2008, and then started on Accel World. But his editor made him publish SAO, and seems to be making him continue the main-series, along side Progressive.
>>
>>139213068
He literary said in the afterword of volume 2 that he was not good enough as a writer to write a female character that does not lust after the MCs cock, why do you think does he want to make things easy for him when it prints money with 0 effort or risk.
>>
>>139213281
I wonder if he'll at least finish the main series but since they removed this "last arc" bit I kinda doubt it. It might be just me but I thing that Alicization is going downhill for quite a while already and I doubt another game with Kirito would be interesting after that.
>>
>>139212593
>Given that he said 30 years, instead of something like 70, will Progressive probably end some time after Sachi's death, or something?

Or he has planned on doing multiple floors in later stories.
>>
>>139211766
>30 years SAO Progressive
Fuck yeah.
>>
>>139213524
>Or he has planned
No.
>>
Maybe it will end if people get tired.
I wonder if he could write more stories. I actually like AW, more than SAO. But on the other hand I don't like his other new series, what ever the name was.
>>
>>139212593
Have you considered the possibility of him speeding up and not releasing 1 progressive volume per year instead?
>>
>>139212855
>30 more years of Argo.
I regret ever considering suicide at one point. Life is now as good as solved.
>>
>>139213707
Well he clearly has some sort of plan where he is going with progressive since we know he has marked floor 9/10 as being important in the near future with Asuna and Kirito. With longer term being 25/50.
>>
>>139213763
See:
>Or will Kawahara start pushing out two volumes a year?
>>
>>139213836
Yes, I'm retarded, my bad.
>>
>>139213836
Yeah that's why I hope he'll finish SAO or else I doubt he'll will be faster unless he takes more hiatuses for AW but this is something I don't want.

>>
>>139211766

He was kidding, right? It's like saying "I could do this for a million years and not be tried of it" or "I'll be here forever", right?
>>
>>139211766

Well that's pretty much how A-1 works so no surprise there
>>
Sure are a lot of obvious fake opinions in this thread
>>
>>139213811
Eh. I think you're probably giving him too much credit. Those are little details he threw in as potential hooks for future exposition, but he's definitely not committed himself to a greater plan.

Honestly, I don't foresee Progressive lasting for too many more volumes. You can only stretch out a finite amount of narration so much. Honestly, while I like it, I find it pretty ridiculous that 4 years later, we are only on floor 5.

At the very most, I think maybe floor 10 is the most likely stopping point with Kawahara picking up the pace per volume. I've said before that floor 25 is the more natural stopping point, but I feel like that's unlikely unless Kawahara REALLY speeds up. And I'm not sure everyone would be up for 24 volumes of heavy flirting.
>>
>>139212612

>>
>>139214243
Something he said at Sakura-con, according to someone who was there.
>>
>>139214068
Sadly, no.
Progressive volumes only include 2 levels at best per volume. So considering that there were 100/75 levels or whereever SAO ended, we probably need another 70 years for it to finish since Reki said he wanted to do all levels. 70 is a bit much so I guess he might consider skipping a few or writing volumes that deal with more than just 1 - 2 levels.
But yeah, 30 years.

Asking once again, would anyone be willing to OCR and translate some raws I have? I'm getting sick of the absolute lack of activity on manga volume 4.
>>
>>139214557
Good news is that it'll develop characters more thoroughly than 1 LN volume can.
>>
>>139214736
Same here. I enjoy it but there is no way he can push it for so long. Not to mention that the volumes always had some game related main theme till now. Like the forging of weapons, the upgrade system, shit like that. There is no way he'll find enough topics to write books for another 30 years.

If he's running out of Kirito / Asuna ideas, he can make another clearing group with new hero / heroine as the main focus for a while.

Although the possibility of them being killed is really high for the drama, etc.
I think SAO peaked at episode 3, it's a death game, not a dating sims so it should stay near its root.
>>
>>139214208
I agree 10 is the nature ending point since that was the floor that Kirito never got past in the Beta. but you can't deny he has put long term arcs into play such as Laughing Coffin playing everyone against each other (and eventually emerging from the shadows) and the quest with the Dark Elves that ends at Floor 9.

>>139216369
>it's punishing to do something on a schedule with little choice for when you want to do something else
Maybe he doesn't want to do anything else. A lot of these mangaka/LN writers are probably mildly autistic and wouldn't do anything else. They also tend to be the most successful ones. Look at Kamachi and Oda. Whereas Kubo has other hobbies and it shows in his work.
>He doesn't have the free time to date
IIRC he's always really awkward and quiet at the Dengeki Fest streaming events.

The Argo one doesn't make sense, seeing as she appears at the end of SAO, in The Day Before. Kawahara must be asking to be knifed, if he kills her.

But yeah, it is pretty much fanon that she was the one who wrote the Aincrad book.

Is Progressive any good? Worth a read? I watched SAO and while I thought it was pretty bad, I didn't hate it.
>>
>>139213292
There's nothing I hate more when people admit that they can't write and then don't bother to try to improve.

What does it say about a writer that can't imagine how to write characters that aren't lusting after the main character or telling him how cool he is all the time?

I mean, for fuck's sake. This is fanfiction level writing. Shit, is fanfiction even the bottom tier of writing anymore? It seems like any half-wit can get an anime as long as he gets a good artist on board.
>>
>>139222340
The original SAO was less of a MMO and more of just an action-adventure story. Progressive is a remake of the original SAO Aincrad arc and makes it more MMO-like and Asuna is a better developed character.

You haven't been paying attention to the recent trend of light novels? Web Novels are getting published merely for having a fan following on what is effectively the japanese version of wattpad or fanfiction.net

Kirito falls in love with Asuna. Unable to confess, he is gifted with by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls her, and is overjoyed to find out that she has a crush on him as well.

But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the girl, she only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn't exist in this universe at all. She is the girl's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of her crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of MMO.

>That was a pretty nuanced answer to the fantranslations question
What fan translations question?
>>
>>139228430
During the Q&A, they were asked their thoughts about fan translations.
Don't have exact wording of the answer, but here's what a redditor posted about it:

>Q: How do you feel about fans translating your work into other languages, and do your feelings on fan translations change after an official version comes out in that respective language?
>I'm gonna post this answer in a bit of a different format, because Kawahara, Miki and Kashiwada talked about this for at least 10 minutes, so there's no way in fuck I can paraphrase even 50% of what was said.
>Kawahara said that it's his personal opinion that fans translations are both a good and a bad thing. He's very touched that fans are so passionate about his work that they want to share it with the rest of the world, and surely without dedicated fans like that SAO would not be what it is today. On the other hand it does create legal issues and such for the people he works with so that's kind of the bad side of it.
>Kashiwada and Miki basically said that fan translations kind of exist in a grey area and that there's positives and negatives for them existing, but they think that there's a way for fan translations to co-exist with the official ones. They also wanted to be very clear that this is not an official statement from any of the companies that they work for or are affiliated with, this is simply their personal opinions on the matter.
>Kawahara went on to say that he frequently gets asked by fans on Twitter if they can get his permission to make an SAO game or some other kind of fan creation, and he doesn't really know how to answer these questions because at this point so many people are involved with SAO that that's not really his permission to give. At the same time though, he's not going to go out of his way to hunt you down or stop if you if you try and make something like that.

Does the title "Ordinal Scale" actually mean anything or does it just sound cool?

To me it sounds dangerously like some kind of tournament ranking is involved.

>>
>>139229363
Over 70 floors in between the start and the end of the Aincrad death game means theoretically he could keep doing Progressive volumes at the current pace of 1-2 floors per volume.
So far he's managed to keep it interesting but I doubt he'll actually keep going for 30 years because it would get a little stale.

Volume 1: How Floor 1 and 2 were cleared
Volume 2: How Floor 3 was cleared
Volume 3: How Floor 4 was cleared
Volume 4: How Floor 5 was cleared
Volume 5: TBA

I think you see the pattern.

Well no shit. We already have large amounts of information about what happens after sao. I want a qt Pugilist/Fist Fighter.

Also, it never really occurred to me that all of the Dark Territory residence were various shades of dark-skinned (either black or apparently mexican), until the very end of Volume 16.

In America, racism is painted in terms of skin color, so racism is typically against black and brown people and you can even decide a Hispanic person is white if it fits your narrative. They can't tell the difference between Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, and think that them hating each other is just national tensions and not racism.

>>
>>139234072
>an army of murderous Koreans
The west isn't gonna care about that. They'll completely forget that SAO is a Japanese work that doesn't quite understand our views on race.
As such, there will probably be someone who over-analyzes how the Dark Territory represents Latin America and Africa, with Gabriel as some the White Master. Not to mention that the Dark Territory residence are all barbarians that measure everything by strength.

On the other hand, they might see it as SAO being Progressive by the fact that the Dark Territory is like that because the government made them like that, and that it's not their fault.

Honestly, there's plenty of ways to analyze the whole race thing in SAO, even if there's nothing really there.

You can't do that NOW. But all it takes is a Supreme Court ruling to change their minds. With VRMMOs putting you right in the center of the gore, and how there was that huge terrorist attack in Japan with 10,000 held captive for two years, it's not that hard to believe that certain types of VRMMOs would be banned in the US, especially with the rise of stuff like PC culture. Regarding the Underworld people I guess the programmers just gave them some equivalent of a sex drive since they are supposed to reproduce in that world.
I kinda wonder why they gave them the need to eat food and things like that anyway. They could have just programmed them to live without that. There is no real sense for food. Maybe they had to regulate the growth of the population to avoid too many people being born in this small world.

I honestly think nobody has said this before.

They're trying to make AI that understand general human concepts, I guess.

There is no need to "wonder" why Rath does anything. It's plainly obvious that they're just retarded.

>let's clones the souls of human babies without informed consent and subject them to unethical social experiments, nobody could possibly jail us and our sponsors for this
>let's run our social experiment on a server farm that has external network connection capabilities so we can to dive into our experiment from Tokyo because we're too lazy to fly to our oil rig sometimes, no enemies of ours could possibly ever exploit this
>let's build the machine we use to dive into the experiment with no surge protection so any disturbance to the electrical wiring could easily fry the brains of whoever is using it, this couldn't possibly ever actually happen
>let's give all the test subjects dev console access instead of coding a proper magic system, nothing bad could possibly come of this

Why didn't they just use some Japanee Patriot Act bullshit to subpoena the ALO company to hand over Yui? Whether top down or bottom up I'm pretty sure Yui is more or less at the point where those two would converge to produce an AI that is of sufficient complexity for military purposes.

The whole thing is bullshit, same with the whole Alice-disobedience stuff. And I couldn't really believe that they're just able to turn this shit into a MMO in mere minutes and make that thousands of players can just log in without any trouble. It's kinda retarded that this super secret project is just a Seed sprig to begin with. There is no way that nobody could ever figure out how Seed actually works and make his own version of it without using the Seed hardware.

To be fair, there's a very long history of unethical human experimentation for military purposes, not only in Japan, but also in plenty of other places like the US. They probably know they won't be jailed, because those sponsors you speak of are the Japanese government itself.

Wouldn't be the first time national security has been used as an excuse to violate the rights of innocent people, and it sure as hell wouldn't be the last.

Isn't Cardinal the incomprehensible black box? I thought Seed was the stripped down open source freeware that anyone can use.

Yes, nobody in the history of democratic government has ever been scapegoated/arrested/impeached in response to public outcry as dictated by political expedience.

>Wouldn't be the first time national security has been used as an excuse to violate the rights of innocent people
This isn't a matter of urgent national security, Japan isn't in the middle of a war for its existence. Kikuoka was just jealous of Obama's drone fleet.
