Kyoto is a really neat city. I stayed in a hostel nearby that view in the lower left. I kind of stumbled across it while I was walking the bridge at night and noted how beautiful and oddly familiar the view was. To be honest the anime that came to my mind at the time was Uchouten Kazoku, but I love Tatami Galaxy as well.

I want to save up for a two-week trip to Japan where I stay in Tokyo for a week and then spend the other week train-hopping down south to all the major cities, ending at Tanegashima.

Also want to have a trip sometime later in my life doing the same thing in Europe, where I start in Spain and make my way to Istanbul. Stopping in Cuenca is a must for me because of Sora no Woto.

It's like that in the western United States. When I lived in bumblefuck nowhere in Nevada we were 100 miles from the nearest grocery store, so we had to make monthly trips and stock our car until it was ready to burst.

In the sense of geography, not ethnicity or nationality, yes, it's the end of the European landmass. It is classified as an intercontinental city. Turks aren't Europeans but a very tiny part of the country occupies European land. It's like how Sinai is located in Asia despite being owned by Egypt, an African country.

I'm not saying that Turks should join the EU at all (that's a retarded fucking decision). Istanbul is just geographically the end of Europe.

>That warning sign about chikan
I thought the frequency of that was just a joke, but I'm like 50% sure I got molested on a train in Tokyo once. I'm a large guy, so I didn't really expect it.

The train was super crowded and some guy was pushed up against me and his hand brushed into my nether-regions. I was sure that it was an accident because of how packed we were, but when I tried to adjust it felt like his hand was following my penis. He didn't grab it or move his hand around, but it was just pretty much constantly brushing up against me. I guess he wanted to see if the rumors about gaijin were true. Either way, the train ride was short, I wasn't sure if it was on purpose and honestly I don't really care if some Japanese dude wanted to touch my penis, I just hope he got what he was expecting.

Ordering at restaurants, asking shop owners about inventory, asking for directions, anything as simple as making idle chit chat with someone you're sitting next. What do you do when you want to ask some technical questions to the guy who just bodied you in the arcade, or when you want to ask where you can find a foreign ATM?

Besides, some Japanese people will just try to make conversation, and not being able to talk back would suck.

>>139229475
"Sumimasen, eigo ga dekimasuka?" is how you ask if they speak English. That'll be your best friend if you don't know any moon.

>>139229578
I used to live in Ibaraki, now Shinjuku. Pretty big difference so I've experienced both inaka and city life. At bars, I get the same "Teach me!" stuff and it's like, huh. I guess it's an icebreaker, but I don't like that being my defining characteristic.

Maybe I'm less approachable looking; at parties, people talk, but I've never been approached at an event - even at live houses, I mostly end up in a gaijin bubble unless some Japanese guy is with their English-speaking friend.
