YenPress is a company that focuses on "westernizing" light novels. Because they officially license a franchise, current fan translations and finished fan translations are shut down.
>>
>>139173367
I think anon is asking who was TLing Progressive, not who YenPress is.
>>
No one is fantranslating Progressive LN because Yen Press is faster and better than the fantranslators we had.
>the half-done Rondo that was on Dreadful Decoding for the longest time
Truly dreadful.

As far as the Progressive manga goes, I'm not sure if people are having trouble finding decent raws after China banned SAO or something. In general, I feel like there's little interest.

>>139171838
Neat. Someone finally got around to doing this.
>>
>>139173583
he restated YenPress practices because they go wide and far out of their way to DMCA everyone, that's what he's getting at.
>>
>>139174421
The only person we had who translated the Progressive LN stopped of his own accord because he was overtaken. I've also not heard of the scanlation group who was doing the manga getting DMCA'd over the Progressive manga.

For being a pretty big title for Yen Press, the SAO main series has at least 3 active or semi-active translators, and no one has mentioned getting DMCA'd by Yen Press or Kadokawa for SAO.

In short, in this case, I don't think it's Yen Press killing translations. There was a dearth of interest even before YP picked up the license.
>>
>>139174620
No back a long time before when the first Progressive novel came out DMCA were issued, that killed the interest in it by translators. That person of their own accord happened after.
>>
Is this as good as Accel World? SAO leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but at least I can accept that the author improved and learned from his mistakes as evidenced by AW. If he's making a genuine effort to fix his mess it could easily be worth a read.
>>
>>139174927
Rondo and Monochrome Concerto (and Aria) existed in full even before Progressive was a thing. I'm pretty sure Rondo translations started before Progressive even came out in Japanese. But even then, there was minimal interest.

I can't say that YP really squashed the SAO translation scene when there was never really one for the Progressive materials and while the translation scene for the main novels is decently healthy.
>>
>>139174193
>after China banned SAO

What?
>>
>>139175268
Meh, all I remember was DMCA take down of the original SAO novel from baka, progressive had 1 1/2 chapters translated from web source, and Alicizsation interest had waned at that point. I assumed DMCA applied to progressive series as well as the original at the time.

So while I was frankensteining my own EPUB together for Volume 1, I found there seems to be some missing text in Chapter 2 part 7.

>I nodded. “Nezha’s upgrading fraud was done at the order of their leader, Orlando. I think. Do you know exactly when Nezha’s Smith Shop first set up in Urbus?”
>“Umm...I think it was the very day that the second floor was opened.”
(missing text)
>at the battlefield, then turned to the path that wound down the mountainside. I rushed to stop her.

>“...are easy if you’ve got the money. So that’s what’s going on,” she said, her voice hard. Asuna bolted to her feet and glared down
(missing text)
>Something that won’t just expose how their weapon-switching trick works but also give us solid proof.”

Anybody have the actual books and can post what goes in these empty bits?

There was a sudden and massive culling of SAO translations online, and that stopped Chinese scanlations of the Progressive manga dead in its tracks over there. Maybe it's still being scanlated underground over there, but I'm not really sure what the Chinese fan community's relationship with the Great Firewall of China is, so I didn't dig too far.

It's actually a book per floor at the current rate. The assumption is he'll stop near the end of the single digit floors when they split up.

Wait, he's not fully expanding the entire SAO story? I assumed it would be the full 75 levels, maybe skipping just a few or having a few levels per book in the form of short stories.
>>
When can we expect Yen Press to do Volume 4?

>>139189435
That's why I said about skipping levels and short stories. But I also can't see the author just ending it when they split up when there a lot more that can be done for the story and the romance. I want to see their marriage developed a bit more as well as the beginning, I want to see how Asuna got involved with the guild and Kirito's difficulty with going solo.

>>
>>139189674
>But I also can't see the author just ending it when they split up

The entire reason for the story was Kirito/Asuna and him training her to survive in the game as a means for Kawahara to expand on some aspects of the MMO such as boss fights, the mechanics of mats or npcs. Her going off on her own is basically the end of the story.

>YP's takedowns
As said upthread, this didn't actually happen for SAO.

The main series novels are up to date with translations.
There are no fan translators for the Progressive novels or manga.
All other side materials listed in the link has been translated with the following exceptions:
>the Material Editions have only been translated through ME13
>SAO Alternative GGO is being actively translated but is currently only on volume 2

For whatever reason, Sisters' Prayer is not listed, but that's also translated.

Oh! I think Girls Ops was not counted in the above SAO LN link, but it's a spinoff manga.
http://swordartonline.wikia.com/wiki/Sword_Art_Online_-_Girls_Ops_(manga)
This also has no fan translators after Tap unilaterally gave up translating it once it got licensed.

It probably has more to do with BakaBT and its policy of shuttering all translations of things that are licensed.

It doesn't stop translations, per se, but it makes it more difficult for translators who care about their BakaBT cred or something.

A long, long, long while ago (like, back in 2010 or something), C&D was sent to Baka-Tsuki for Haruhi, Spice and Wolf, and Book Girl.

Besides Danmachi they haven't sent any notices since. They didn't send C&D to the new Spice and Wolf translators, they didn't send C&D for Index New Testament, and they didn't send C&D for SAO's Alicization volumes.

I guess it helps that Baka-Tsuki is very prompt about killing stuff the day the licenses are announced.
