This would probably be a weird place to start. Sailor Moon is not the kind of thing that becomes less enjoyable when later parts are spoilt, but out of all the adaptions it would be unusual to jump in right now into something so controversial and largely redundant when you could pick up the earlier series instead.
Having said that, this arc is actually the most self sufficient part of the whole series and is more worth watching for its own sake compared to the way the other arcs tie together. It just don't see how it could manage to top how it was done in the older anime.

I just watched this for the first time, and I will admit that it does stretch credibility. Usagi is essentially watching someone kill all of her friends in front of her and instead of fighting she just offers up sympathy for the villain. Yeah, it is kind of bullshit and we saw that a lot in R and somewhat in S so I get how one would roll their eyes at it.

I personally really like the song. I do admit that the visuals are lacking though (from .39 to .52 mostly), while watching the stream I thought that it wasn't finished with all those stills. From Usagi's hand extended towards the moon it would have been cool if they did a similar animation with Chibiusa's hand entwining with Hotaru's instead of just having their eyes move slightly. Hotaru briefly looking to the side also looks cheap as fuck when compared to that glorious cut in Sailor Mars' premonition.

They probably couldn't do it, but S could easily have been better. S got me the most hype while I was watching it, but it didn't deliver in the end.
The way they set it up, Chibiusa and Hotaru were supposed to save the day at the end, but you remember what happened. Afther they took Chibiusa out, she was never heard from again.
This is what they should have done.Evil Hotaru absorbed Chibiusa, so she had Chibiusa and good Hotaru within her, and that should have been her undoing.
I think it was Usagi who was trying to do that "please remember who you are!" shit, but for once the evil was strong enough not to let that happen, which is great.
So good Hotaru is inside evil Hotaru. She is not strong enough to overcome her, so she is all alone and down in the dumps and thinking that it is all over. But remember, Evil Hotaru had absorbed Chibiusa. This is when Chibiusa finally finds Hotaru, and she does exactly what she had been doing throughout all of S, making Hotaru stronger. She convinces Hotaru to try one more time, this time together, to overcome evil Hotaru, and, voila, they succeed. Chibiusa saves the day like Queen Serenity sent her to do.

Really, missing the potential of the first two seasons means that even if it does the rest well, it's fucked over its opportunity to make the most out of the potential changes it could have made. Since the first two arcs provide the context for everything else, the later parts won't be able to develop the same kind of impact.
