Is he a hack?
>>
Yes.
>>
>>139077280
No. He is a Jap.
>>
>>139077280
No, he's a genius and the most noteworthy animated film creator in history.
>>
He was a visionary.
>>
hes a pedo
>>
>>139077280
No, but his bff is.
>>
>>139077280
No. He puts thought and effort into what he is doing. Unlike OP who just sucks cocks for a living without even trying to watch his teeth.
>>
Not a hack, a has-been
There's a difference
>>
>>139077364
He's a creative genius but as a director he's all over the place. I think he has too much creativity to cram into a couple of hours and sometimes it gets the better of him.
>>
>>139077489
That's not surprising since the industry and market has changed since he was in his prime.
>>
>>139077280
His movies aren't the masterpieces people make them out to be and the resolutions to them fall flat but his scenes are pretty well done.
>>
>>139077489
>has-been

Pretty much.

Also, a grumpy old Luddite too.
>>
>>139077702
I would be too if I lived in modern Japan. I just think people being addicted to their cellphones instead of being social here in the west is one of the worst things ever. I would hate to think how that media addiction is in Japan.
>>
>>139077280
I like a lot of his films but if anyone ever told me he was high on drugs when he made Ponyo I'd have believed it.
>>
>>139077280
He did nothing wrong

>>139078162
He wanted to make a kid's film untainted by otaku shit
>>
>>139077280
No, this is Patrick
>>
>>139078203
>He wanted to make a kid's film untainted by otaku shit

I'm not really speaking of the quality of the film, I just mean that the overall direction felt like Miyazaki was on a high and just mashed his favorite themes/ideas all at once and it resulted in Ponyo's creation.
>>
>>139078284
>I just mean that the overall direction felt like Miyazaki was on a high and just mashed his favorite themes/ideas all at once and it resulted in Ponyo's creation.

Yes that's exactly what I meant as well

He wanted to create what he believed to be a great kid's film
>>
>>139077280

His worst work is better than most of the better regarded directors' in the industry, so no. Miyazaki not having a proper successor is a shame.
>>
>>139078719
That's also why he thinks you need lots if life experience as a good storyteller. You can replicate other peoples stories and do a fine job with that, but no one else can live the life you have lived. That gives you access to things that are just more than dreams and fantasies.
>>
He was a pedophile
>>
I saw Hayao Miyazaki at a grocery store in Tokyo yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "ああ、あなたは今のようにやっていますか?" I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "ハァッ?ハァッ?ハァッ?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw Miyazaki trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen academy awards in his hands without earning them. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be retired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the awards and started SCANNING it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "任意の電気infetterenceを防止します," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each award and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by telling her it was a mistake really loudly.

Where does this meme come from?
>>
>>139079571
Have you watched his films? There are panty shots of little girls and focus on their butts. It's honestly disgusting.
>>
>>139079623
But this is Anime.
>>
>>139079637
I don't give a fuck. At least have them pass puberty, for fucks sake
>>
>>139077428
So he'd fit in with /a/
>>
I had a pretty good sandwich for lunch today. Thought it might have been the next Miyazaki.

He is a pedophile and will never be as visionary as me
>>

His fascination with childhood is normal and well adjusted.

Next you're going to say that William Gray was a pervert for including Jane's panties in Dick and Jane.
>>
>>139079932
Why do they need to include upskirts? What purpose does it serve other than satisfying fellow pedophiles?
>>
>>139079979
These are children.

Realistically speaking, they aren't nearly as self-conscious about being proper and lady like.

>What purpose does it serve other than satisfying fellow pedophiles?
It captures childhood innocence and a total lack of concern with sexuality.

You're the only one imparting sexual nature onto it.
>>
I think he's just really weird. He's really hit or miss as a director but as a person he's pretty hard to read. He might just be too old to make any sense at this point.
>>
I don't think there's a single director with a better track record, certainly no one with as big a massive winning streak as his from Lupin in '79 all the way to Spirited Away in '01. Hell the only movie of his I'd say was no good was Howl's (though I haven't seen Wind Rises or Porco, but I hear good things).

now Tomino is definitely a hack, if not an outright hack-fraud
>>

>I don't think there's a single director with a better track record

Takahata, nigga.
>>
>>139080563
>I've only seen G-Reco
>>
I wouldn't say he's a hack. He does have some brilliant films, but he hasn't put out anything really good in a long time and has a lot of mediocre and outfight shitty films too.
>>
>>139080569
Takahata's great but I wouldn't say that at all.

Daily reminder that Hayao Miyazaki is a radical feminist and the best anime producer in the history of anime.
>>
>>139080956
I'd say "being good at anime" is reason enough to set aside any misgivings I have with the guy.
>>
>>139082962
How is he radical?
>>
>>139077967
I live in Japan and you have entirely the wrong viewpoint.

This country is aging as FUCK and almost all their media/politics is geared towards the older folks and 'the good ol' days.'

If anything, the tech-obsession is a rebellion to this or, at the very least, a reaction.

Which is why he retired a couple years ago? He knows he's done. He only does small stuff now because he's bored and japs work until they're dead.

I dunno, I like Miyazaki's best over Takahata's.
