To be honest I did a big check and was actually kinda surprised that every last one of them just fit in the glurgy romance category.

It's not as simple as that. There is getting published in the first place, that requires your work to be of a certain quality and can be consistently rated in whatever format publishes your work. That usually means a magazine that is marketed to a specific audience. You can have two characters have sex in a lot of magazines, but you can't have an H scene in many of those same mags.
Like any "serious" person working on their career, they would be more than happy to have their work published. Being a mangaka might be a great job for some people, but it's still a job. If they really hate the fact that they can only produce ecchi series to get published then, I don't know. There are non-ecchi series that do great.
