Well the Drowning and getting knocked out by rat poison makes perfect sense, he's still a living being that isn't biologically magical minus the Zenkai thing and Great ape stuff. so it's perfectly normal to assume drowning and poisoning him would do the trick.
The Gun is weird though, might be something silly like "goku let his guard down so he got hurt" or it might be something like "the gun was designed to attack and kill fighters through their defenses."
