Same showrunner just different animation director. Expect the same melodrama and l"ol magical girl = serious business" bullshit. The manga was never always "lol so dark serious". It was always a nice balance between it. If Toei wants to make Crystal decent, they shoukd take elements from the 1992 anime, the manga, and live action plus add in some originality to make it fun not boring as shit.
Sailor Moon was my favourite show as a kidand beyond. Roleplaying as all the characters with the girls at recess... good times in kindergarten, good times.

Literally impossible they manage a minimum level of quality. Maho has some mediocre animation, DBS has one good cut every 6 episodes.
They're working on too much thing and they have Digimon Tri: Kokuhaku, Buddha 3 and Pop in Q planned for this year too.

That would be perfectly fine were it not for the excess of melodrama without any counterpoint as you've said.
Sailor Moon is best when it takes itself completely seriously. Ideally there should be a good balance between SoL, character development, backstory, comedy and everything else, but Crystal was always shit in that regard and wasted the opportunity to do the earlier arcs right.

It's always been my hope that random filler episodes would become straight up Sailor V on a whim in some adaptation, it would please me for this to end up happening.
Having a straight Sailor V series as a totally separate thing would honestly be boring as fuck though and I wouldn't care. It would just be so fitting to have Sailor V gong on solo adventures in a show-within-the-show as her thing, like how Rei essentially drove the interactions in the original and had her own supporting cast.

For the original series? I have lots of nostalgia for it, but that's because it's legitimately the best directed anime series ever made. Watching it as an adult was like "ok, why is this somehow so much better than I remember it being"? It has no end of flaws, but there's absolutely nothing else as good as it.
