Well then a bit more detailed synopsis.
You can probably go find the /ai/ thread to discuss, but let's just do it here.
Aikatsu is a show about middle-school girls who sign up at an idol school to become stars. The main attraction is the weekly CGI song and dance routine (the early CGI is a bit meh, but along the way they become masters of this little niche) - This is to try and goad kids into playing the real-world arcade games.
Beyond that, the show is about a broad-based celebrity industry. They do auditions for commercials, appear in TV variety shows, do movies, etc, etc. It's quite broad and generally based in real jobs, although 90% of what they do is just to set up a song and dance routine. There are even a few eps dedicated to some of the TV dramas they make.
Things escalate somewhat over time and they do tours and have competitions, but everyone remains friendly and happy for the most part. Rivals are just friendly rivals, and there's very little in the way of feeling down when people lose a contest.
First season (50 eps) is quite good, the second season kinda flounders as they try and introduce new things but not having them click. Then they move to a new protagonist so they can do it all again and have moderate success.
The other show in this area is PriPara. Aimed slightly younger, it tends to be more fantastical and whacky a lot of the time - EG there's a sentient vacuum cleaner and an idol goat. The main thrust is just the group of friends overcoming the things happening so they can sing and dance. There's almost nothing other than song and dance in PP.
I actually prefer PP because the characters are more diverse and active, rivals have more defined rivalries and people want to win. I just find it more fun ~puri

Aikatsu is a great SoL anime. The girls are cute and the show is comfy.
