It's not her diet that changed, his/her gender, it's her behavior based on the diet advice.
Any deviation from the original behavior could do it, it could have been as simple as reading the text interrupting her schedule, as her getting the idea to chose and researching factors that influence baby gender, or as complex as suggesting she wanted a daughter and getting an engineered embryo.
The text may never have actually discretely influenced her at all, or may have been the complete reason for the switch.
