It's 11 volumes of generic bike sports manga... does shit ever hit the fan? I need to know
I've heard it ended without anything really explicit. But who knows, maybe I'm lied to, and I think part of the reason people read it was because of the suspense in seeing when shit gets out of hand.
It's hard to believe that he's capable of making something without people dying...
I really liked Bokurano, why would it be a mistake? It's like a mix of Eva and Madoka. And I literally just started Narutaru.

Kitoh usually gets knocked on for the whole edginess stuff, but when it comes to combat he does a really great job. There's some really cool stuff going on in Bokurano during the fights, my personal favorite being the artillery mech half a world away.

The reason that comparing it to Eva is stupid, despite the obvious inspiration, is because Bokurano has none of the substance that Eva does.
In Bokurano, most of the characters receive next to no characterization up until it's their turn to die, at which point the story stops entirely to exposit on them, just so that their deaths can have an emotional impact on the viewer.
I know that talking about depth and substance is a minefield when it comes to Eva, but Bokurano is exactly what Eva would be without either of them. It's full of suffering for the sake of suffering, and its big cast of two dimensional characters can't begin to hold a candle to Eva's smaller but much infinitely more realized characters. They exist for no purpose except to die and make people feel sad.

Yes, it's very blatent about the death thing and I feel like it's intentionally aware of that.
But it's interesting seeing what the characters do once they realize their time is up. The entire story is about that feeling and the ways people cope with death. I stopped feeling too upset after a while but I still think it has some merit.
Narutaru was pretty much like evangelion except with oodles of more despair, death and confusion.
Mostly the latter.
I should probably read it again.
narutaru would've been better if Kitoh had time to make a fleshed out ending, but the plug got pulled and he had to rush something... it shows

Bokurano's awesome though. Its a great story about people triumphing over their problems and facing their fate as best they can, with a few twists along the way to boot.

IMO Bokurano (the manga) is a solid 8.5/10. The ending is by far the best part. All the abject suffering ends up having a really poignant payoff. Narutaru on the other hand is hilariously bad torture porn.

Bokurano is about finding grace and purpose in the face of monstrous despair. Notice how each arc focuses on a singular child starting with his or her life circumstances, and how they react/cope with inevitable death. If you want purposeless death Narutaru fits the bill.

God, you Evafags. I literally said it's not as good as Eva, you admit yourself that the inspiration is obvious, how is it wrong to make the comparison? Bokurano is good, you're mostly complaining about the structure (linear development isn't necessarily bad, it wouldn't make a difference if the kids were developed at the start or just before they died). It doesn't need to be a masterpiece on the level of Eva to earn the right to make a vague comparison, they have strong similarities at least on a superficial level.
