/a/ is a bit retarded. If the book was never given an anime or manga, it'll be just a regular novel. It doesnt really make changes after it got an anime. There is a difference in writing style with light novels and normal books. Vampire hunter D is a normal book series, not a light novel series that was adapted into an anime.
