I tried watching Elfen Lied twice but gave up around episode 6-7. The sense of hopelessness and despair were so overwhelming I just quit. I was actually enjoying, but just couldn't handle dem feels

Berserk maybe? I mean I fucking love Berserk but holy shit, there are some fucked up scenes in that manga.
Hellsing obviously had a lot of fucked up shit, but it's so good that no one really cares.
LOGH was a masterpiece, but man, I will never forget that one fucked up scene where out of nowhere they suddenly just shove the reality of war into your face and you see people melting, getting electrocuted, torn to pieces, thrown into space, guy cut in half crawling around crying for his mother.
