The final arc developed Claire into the ultimate Mary Sue which was the most disappointing part of it all. I didn't like Raki, but seeing how it all ended in the manga, I'd rather have seen him take a more pivotal role, considering he was trained by an abyssal one.

You need to consider that Mangaka are primarily artists. Someone being both a good writer and a good artist is extremely rare simply because people tend to focus on one or the other. Yagi would do extremely well if he was paired up with a writer. The same dynamic as Seki Hasemi and Kentaro Yabuki, Yabuki gives his writer a broad outline, the writer writes it into the plot, Yabuki draws it while suggesting other scenes he wants to draw.

I loved the series for its characters and setting, but the plot lost me towards the end. The setting had SO MUCH POTENTIAL but everything was too focused on a bunch of renegades taking down some raid bosses. There was no grand scheme the cast was trying to foil, no escalating plot. Some unnamed nation was fighting some war where they fought half-dragons (or something like that) and needed an edge, so they did the only logical thing and tried making their own. Yoma are the first generation. They are what happens when small quantities of Dragon flesh is inserted into a Human. All the teamwork displayed leading up to that was great, if a bit meaningless in the wake of how amazing she was after that event.
And I like that they didn't try to keep going afterwards. They left it with this island full of ungodly warrior women that will remain in relative peace and order under their care.
They didn't need to go into the whole war bullshit, but it was nice that they gave a somewhat proper explanation.
The monsters were also fucking beautiful. Main reason I'm upset the anime went to so much shit is that I would have loved to see shit like the Priscilla vs Riful fight, or the twin tower of FUCKEVERYTHING animated.

She didn't even come close. Priscilla was fighting Riful and the black mass that was invading her body at the same time. Regardless the power level inflation towards the end really hurt the series. The post timeskip powerlevels weren't immediately bad but the one-upmanship of the Abyssals then the Abyss Eaters then the new No.1 and 2, then the goddess construct, then Priscilla then Teresa was just bad.
