WHY DOES THE ANIME EVEN EXIST?
>>
>>138804437
Well when your mission was ostensibly to retrieve civilians from the Jade Palace, rather than install the pro-peace faction into power, only to have Itami suddenly go Liam Neeson in the middle of the capital to rescue the leader of the pro-peace faction, they can't really operate under that pretense anymore.
>>
>>138804291
No I wont!
>>
>>138804509
they already fucked it up by forgetting the most important person to peace anyways, Pina. If they were to ever get a stable regime in place, they'd need her to succeed the throne regardless, since everyone else has proven...uncooperative
>>
>>138804574
It all works out in the end. Cooperation is only mildly needed.
>>
>>138803233
It seems likely that the Three Noble Pricks would have done her at some point.

>>
I don't have a pic for it but,
has anyone noticed how Itami will point guns at people who have never seen guns, and they will know its SUPER deadly.
>>
>>138804437
>>138804465
The mission was always just to retrieve the delegates and the pro peace senators as well as the refugees caught in the wildfire.
Diet orders were not to touch the figureheads.
You can imagine what Itami's doing.
Itami is a valuable asset to the JSDF.
They work overtime to bring him back.
>>

>>138804574
>>138804660
Pina just wants to be a BL mangaka but the empire wont let her
>>
>>138804834
anime skips a bunch of little stuff. Manga covers that subject a bit better.
>>
Is JSDF even worth it?
Sure, it's OPERATOR at certain times, but isn't it pretty much JSDF steamrolling medieval times, breaking pretty much every military logic, and getting away with it?
How the fuck did Pina get raped anyway? She is a princess of the empire, isn't there a limit to what you can do to a fucking princess unless the god damn empire falls?
>>
>>138805041
Zorzal initiated the Patriot Act basically, also Pina is a child of a concubine and like 9th in succession (under normal circumstance, not including political strengths).
>>
>>138804868
manga skips a lot of the original novel too.

the attack in ginza lasted for 7 days and got 100000 plus casualties because the liberals are arguing "romans dindu nuthin". the american troops are raring to go but the liberals stopped them because they are scared of american troops on capital will be bad for elections and stuff.

so yes, it is sad that the author was labeled jingonistic hard core right wing, when the novels are more "our government sucks bad when dealing with a military situation"
>>
>>138805041
JSDF is barely steamrolling. They are too janky to really get the job done quick enough.
>>
>>138805154
>lasted for 7 days

days actually, Itami arrived when JSDF rescued the nobles and extracted a few days ago
>>
>>138805421
>allowing a barbarian horde to rampage unchecked in the middle of Tokyo for a whole fucking week because muh bureaucratic inefficiency
No, that's patently ridiculous. Now I could believe that there would be 100K+ casualties in a span of several hours, seeing as Tokyo is very densely populated, and the notRomans came in with a very large force, but even the stupidest of politicians wouldn't sit on their asses while people are openly being slaughtered in the streets, even those evil librulz.
>>
Slaughering all of the imperial soldiers felt wrong. They're no real threat and could easily be forced to surrender or subdued with non-lethal measures. Every single one of them is a son, brother, father or husband and they just shoot them and stab them in the neck. Doesn't fit the mood at all.
>>
>>138805478
>192000 jap civies dead
>In 7 days
Is that even possible with medieval tech? That's killing 20 people in 1 min including sleeping time, and even with fucking orcs and superior imperial spear formation going around, I do not see how they can just kill pretty much everything in the area without people escaping the area or running out of people to kill.
>>
>>138805361

>>138805198
Not so much since they have the 9th article.
I`m not expert enough to explain in details.

But the govern need to approve a law for every war situation like that notRomans one.
And the law should be made in order to not go against 9th article.
Like "you can only attack in same firepower to what enemy have".
Also all jieitai shit is made under a "positive list" principle (You can do this, this and this but nothing else.)
If you watched patlabor 2 the movie you will understand how fucked up it is. (I don`t know how it was translated into english.)
>>
>>138805593
Japan is a home to one of the craziest politicians ever. You know the girl grilled Rory, Tuka and Leilei? She is based on a real taiwanese-japanese politician who wants JSDF and JMSDF dismantled because she believes that US will come to rescue when China is knocking on Japan soil.

and that is still on the lowest end of the liberal crazy politicians.

It is possible that this 7 days, 200k shit was in the WN, the author is stupid enough, but I think anon just made it up.

So I went and read that part of the novel, translated of course, and you are absolutely full of shit.

Now, that's a good thought experiment, would the crazy liberals stop a military campaign if it took place in a Japanese city?

Well, considering Americans were helping Japan clean up after the Tsunami, no probably not.

crazy politicians, thats why.

read and research the crazy politicians in Japan, and suddenly everything make sense

Yes and no, primarily because the manga hasn't gotten that far.

Yes. You should read it sometime.

But the legislature should have jack shit in the way of operational control of the military, making that irrelevant. And there's a world of difference between fantasizing that the US will save them from future threats and reacting to an invasion in your capitol RIGHT FUCKING NOW.

Thank you for doing jack shit to answer the question of how civilian control of the military is structured, opting instead to repeat the same bullshit said in 5 other posts.

>That's because you're an idiot who can't think ahead
>You think there won't be a hundred rich dudes now itching to fund an insurgency because they saw their kid melt from the phosphorus?

Lell, but gunning down 120,000 soldiers is totally a peace offering. I'm sure none of the generals or lieutenants were anyone's son, father, or husband.

Here's what would happen: They would send their maids and servants out to put out the fire with water, it would explode and they would quickly realize that the best thing to do is to avoid it. After a month of their homes and mansions burning down, they will accept any concessions.

Think of it this way, 1000 or 2000 immolated is better than a hundred times that gunned down on the battlefield. Even if those gunned down were lowborn. And it would send a very strong message to Empire that they cannot resist.

YOU'RE an idiot if you think gunning down their entire army isn't what got the JSDF in this mess in the first place. Having a years-long drawn out stalemate with Empire is literally the worst thing they could have done and it's cost the lives of tens of thousands already.
>>
>>138806358
The manga hasn't gotten that far yet.
>>
I'm gonna miss GATE threads. It's been a lot of fun.
>>
>>138806398
>You think there won't be a hundred rich dudes now itching to fund an insurgency because they saw their kid melt from the phosphorus?

It's funny because next chapter, if Anime gets that far, is literally the Empire funding a full-blown insurgency against the JSDF.

So I guess you're both idiots.
>>
>>138806543
>Having a years-long drawn out stalemate with Empire is literally the worst thing they could have done and it's cost the lives of tens of thousands already.

Which is precisely why they're trying to go the diplomacy/regime change route.

It's mini-/int/ inside of /a/. Minus the flags

It's fun for a while, but after countless threads it feels tiresome. We can still have them when a new chapter of the manga comes out.

It's alright anon, there's always the next cycle. Both of the obvious frontrunners for each party don't seem to be very concerned about privacy, so I'm sure it'll be an even bigger issue by the next election.

And they're at full-blown war with the empire now because that failed right quick, didn't it? Almost like gunning down 120,000 on the battlefield was a poor idea born from necessity to keep them out of the gate and not because it was the most strategically sound plan.
>>
>>138806613
>Which is precisely why they're trying to go the diplomacy/regime change route.

but they're already at stalemate. they've been at that for a year before the coup d'etat.

Did anyone seriously think they would work out peace with the empire in the first place? They killed no less than 2/3rd of their army. The hawks are angry because they didn't get their sons, husbands, or fathers back. While the doves are happy because they did from the deal Pina struck.

WP probably not the best answer, but there should have at least been airstrikes from day 1.

>>138803758

Theirs a fair amount of difference between "my son died in glorious battle over there" and "my son died screaming while his face melted off and I was powerless to do anything but watch." Numbers don't matter much, what people actually experience does. Stop being IDF tier stupid and think about how perceptions form future actions for a bit.

And Japan hasn't been through the gate for more than year, and probably not much more than half a year, at this point.
>>
>>138806631
I disagree. There's something new in each one. This is the first one I've read where someone suggests that white phosphoring the rich quarter of the capital would have been better than what the Nips have been doing, and I'm starting to agree.
>>
>>138806792
>And Japan hasn't been through the gate for more than year, and probably not much more than half a year, at this point.
Actually, how does the time speed difference between Japan and GATE-land work, again?
>>
>>138806589
No, I'm aware of that. And it's proximate trigger is, of course, the attack on the capitol. The Red Light district also gets the wrong kind of fucked, as they alluded would happen at the end of this episode. Phosphus-kun is the one that doesn't get that actions have consequences.
>>
>>138806631
Certain conversations become tiresome. I was glad when we finally moved past the bitching about the onsen episode.

>Theirs a fair amount of difference between "my son died in glorious battle over there" and "my son died screaming while his face melted off and I was powerless to do anything but watch." Numbers don't matter much, what people actually experience does.

You think that really matters? Either way their son is dead. And they got to watch how it happen.

If any of the senators or nobles got to watch artillery shells rain down on their helpless armies, the effect and outcome would be exactly the same. But they didn't, so they concocted this plan to keep Japan at war for as long as possible. An 'insurgency' if you will.

That's why the Gaza Bank plan was effective in the first place. No one wants that to happen to them, and it only takes a few people seeing it to understand how powerful it can be and demand peace.

It created Hezbollah, but that was probably going to happen anyway.

>And Japan hasn't been through the gate for more than year, and probably not much more than half a year, at this point.

It's been one year at least according to the manga.

Getting mowed down at a distance without killing anyone isn't glorious battle. Not for the losers anyway.

Besides, a lot of those guys will have the more immediate issue of: "I'm going to die screaming with my face melting off if we don't stop this."
>>
>>138806847
When the gate's closed, time passes at 1/4th speed.

When it's open, time passes normally.
>>
>>138806847
Right now, I think they're synced up. That's why earthquakes are happening; essentially two times are stuck on each other, as opposed to two tectonic plates.
>>
>>138806847
As long as the gate is open there is no time-speed difference.
The earthquake thing doesn't make much sense though. Earthquakes are caused by to pieces of connected rock that are under spatial stress. Stress builds up, eventually rocks slip.
But here the stress is in the time dimension, so rather than regular earthquakes, the should be sudden time-slips (compared to the other side of the Gate) which may also induce small earthquakes, who knows, but that wouldn't be the most noteworthy effect.
>>
>>138806810
>white phosphoring the rich quarter of the capital would have been better than what the Nips have been doing

The problem with that is that as soon as word about that gets out to Earth, all of Japan's regional rivals will be screaming about how Japan is returning to its massacring ways, and unlike the Palestinians, the Chinese have enough international clout to ensure that this doesn't get swept under the rug.
>>
>>138806877
>No, I'm aware of that

So you're aware that the thing you said 'would happen' actually DOES happen when going with the 'murder everyone' route, right?

Because I see a lot of japanese sites saying took 7 days to defeat the notRomans.
>>
>>138807014
Hezbollah was the direct cause of the blockade against Gaza lasting for as long as it has. It had NOTHING to do with the initial Gaza Bank strategy. It has everything to do with Israel realizing that they can basically keep them there forever without any consequences because they are "our greatest ally" and all.

So no, the argument that "WP created Hezbollah" isn't correct. The argument that the Gaza Bank plan as a whole created Hezbollah is correct.
>>

That's impressive, considering how long the war in the Middle East takes. Maybe the JSDF is really capable after all.

>>You think that really matters? Either way their son is dead. And they got to watch how it happen.

Yes? We have this stuff called "history" that we can look at for examples, and we're pretty clear by now on how observing death and war in person or visually is different from reading about it later. I'm not going to argue what ifs about the clusterfuck that is the I/P conflict, but it should be pretty clear that Israels tactics are doing jack shit to reduce hatred and move towards an actual peace as opposed to recurring and expensive smackdowns of people living in rubble.

>But here the stress is in the time dimension, so rather than regular earthquakes, the should be sudden time-slips (compared to the other side of the Gate) which may also induce small earthquakes, who knows, but that wouldn't be the most noteworthy effect.
The implication is that the Gate Gods normally prevent Earthquakes, but the Time Slips was such a big deal that even gods can't prevent instability. One assumes that the Earthquakes are just a symptom and not the effect of the timeslip directly.

Yes, but you can't argue that the WP solution didn't swiftly bring temporary peace to Gaza. It had their leaders crawling to Israel on their knees.

It was a terrible human rights abuse, yes, but it beat the shit out of trying to send in troops to deal with an ongoing insurgency which was already taking place at that time.

We aren't talking their other methods, like the blockades or the airstrikes. We're talking solely about the mortar strikes.

>Yes? We have this stuff called "history" that we can look at for examples
History shows that when dealing with Savages, shock and awe works great. Especially when dealing with pre-gunpowder societies

Do you even know why Japan became industrialized? It's because a man named Matthew C. Perry brought his fleet over to Japan, consisting entirely of steam ships.

Japan promptly looked at ships, that moved without slaves or sails, that was covered head to toe in cannons. Perry then told them that if they didn't sign his agreement, that thing would be sitting in their port for a while.

Naturally, they signed.

That's what Japan should have done initially. Gunning down their armies taught them nothing. Showing them the equivalent of a steam ship would have been something.

So yeah, history can teach a lot. Maybe you should pick up a history book every once in a while instead of mounting that high horse you have.

Army B targeting fire on civilians absolutely is unchill.

I just realised another major reason why Japan deliberately doesn't want to take over the Gate government; for as long as they stay separate they can leave the issue of Abolitionism to Pina to work out in her own time. But if the JSDF is the real ruler then they would have no choice but to abolish slavery right away, and the political muscle required to change this would be monumental.

They could have used non-lethal means to subdue them, like tear gas and water cannons. I can understand flakking the wyverns, but there was no reason at all to kill the infantry, who were only there in the first place because the Emperor had lied to their commanders. They posed no threat and weren't even actually Japan's enemy. If Gate were real, some of the Japanese commanders and politicians have bought themselves a ticket to The Hague.

Why has it still not been explained how civilian control of the military works in GATEland? The only way political considerations matter is if it has to go through the legislature.
