Dumping a few chapters of Sangokushi whenever I have time now that it's completely translated.
Recap of story so far: After becoming the new chancellor, Cao Cao schemes to eliminate potential threats to him. His first aim is to turn Lu Bu against Liu Bei.
For those who don't know what this is, it's a faithful adaptation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Yokoyama Mitsuteru, the mangaka of Tetsujin 28, Giant Robo, Mars, etc. The art isn't amazing but if you've ever wanted to get into Three Kingdoms but didn't feel like slogging through book, reading this is the easiest way. The 2010 Chinese TV series was alright too, but that skips out on some fun arcs.

I appreciate you doing this. Sangokushi is one of those classic series that doesn't really have a lot of readers outside of japs.

I think this experience did teach him a thing or two though. In later battles, we see a Zhang Fei who's quite a bit more cautious than how he was portrayed earlier on in the story. He even goes so far as to use his reputation for being a wild drunk to fool the enemy completely.
Isn't Cao Bao a cousin to Lu Bu, and that's why Zhang Fei wanted to kill him?

In the novel, Cao Bao is Lu Bu's father in law. It's not really the reason Zhang Fei wanted to kill him though. I think it's more the case of Zhang Fei being drunk off his ass, and then wanting to kill him because he thinks Cao Bao betrayed Xuchang's rightful lord (Liu Bei).

Speaking seriously though, it would be interesting to know just how often horses were targeted. Although I'd naturally assume that soldiers did target them considering these battles are matters of life and death, I wonder if the scarcity of good horses in China ever made any officers caution their soldiers to avoid killing horses if possible. Seems like a long-shot, but who knows?
