TTGL is a homage to three different decades of mech anime with a coming of age story plastered on top. Rewatched it and aside from it being low resolution and having sorta stiff animation it's still great

I enjoyed this movie. I knew from the startthat Ichirouhiko was a human as wellbut I wish they developed his part in the movie more just so that the beating and the final bit didn't seem like an unexpected development.
Other than that, the entire film was a beautiful visual treat from start to finish. That first-person pov in the beginning when Ren was lost and the whale near the end were the coolest things for me, visually.
