Hello /a/. So recently there have been posts about using WebMs

Hello /a/. So recently there have been posts about using WebMs as containers for images.

VP8 is an amazing codec that will output a similar quality image compared to jpg for half the file size, in some cases even more.
It also looks the same as a heavily compressed PNG to most people while only being on average 20-30% the file size of the original PNG.

Before you mention it, yes I know there is WebP but 4chan does not permit this sparsely supported format.
However until the time is right we can use WebM to post anything from image reactions up to 2048 x 2048 high-res images.

Which got me to think "Can we post an entire manga in a webm file with reasonable quality?"
After all, webm is video format, so it shouldn't be too hard to display multiple images in sequence.
Perhaps a video with chapter markers and a reader that would auto pause at each of the markers

>TL;DR
WebM is breddy gud for displaying high quality images at low file sizes.

Okay, now post the original image.
>>
But then how can i zoom

No.

In MPC It's possible, and can be done in MPV as well.
>>
>>138665269
Let me guess. You don't have an entire scan to test it with and you want someone else to do it?

One major problem I have with this Webm Image posting is that there's no support for "Search for this Image on Google" for Webms. That's how most people track sources.

The amount of "source?" posts would increase exponentially, the sky will envelop the earth in a doomsday haze, and Mozart's Lacrimosa will play from all directions.

My only issue is the dimensions of that image. It's pretty small compared to the original here: >>138665384
Which makes it hard to appreciate the art and shit.

Yes there is. The thumbnail gets searched, just like every other image

You can extract any frame from it and search it.
Also webm support EXIF data.
>>138665456
How's this?
>>
>>138665542
This kills my CPU.
>>
>>138665542
Awful, all the fine details are smudged and destroyed. Lineart is jagged and a lot of gray artifacts is around it.

Yeah no thanks. PNG optimized is where it's at.

Did you vote for trump?

I'm not american. Anyway, webp creates artifacts so of course it's shit.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
People shouldn't complain about file sizes in [CURRENT YEAR].
I bet you stream your anime too.

it's not like quality in image is that great to begin with, what an awful sample to use for comparison

You can still post those but with some modification.

Holy shit the retardation in this threads is approaching /b/ levels, OP kill yourself.

If only we could just attach like 5 images to a single post abd avoid OP's problem entirely. OH WAIT.
>>
Why not just use webp and pack it into CBZ?
>>

Because PNG.

Why not?
