I don't think the OP meant that people with special skills are disqualified, but that their special skills shouldn't be taken into consideration, which is why I called out Clare and Kirito for not counting; both of their swordsmanship rely on special skills.

Did you read the series? He wasat his best before immortality, which is why he wanted it in the first place; he knew being a strong swordsman wouldn't prevent inevitable human death.
Immortality only made his sword skills worse because he stopped caring about finesse or whether or not he got hurt during fights; he'd survive regardless.
