Lupin Thread. Just watched the Nora ep of Blue Jacket, and damn that was actually pretty sad. I'm kinda surprised Blue Jacket is as great as it is, it may even rival Green Jacket if it finishes strong.
>>
Oh cool. A lupin thread I didnt make. I will bump this.
>>
>>138604574
Blupin is great from what I saw so far, but i'm waiting for the dub. I just want to go in fresh with some episodes. I like watching Lupin subbed and dubbed.
>>
>Series 1
>Episode where they steal the emerald of the nile off the cat's eye

Felt so good.
>>
>>138605407
I'm probably just gonna rewatch once the dub comes out. It's good enough that I don't think it'll be an issue watching it again so soon.

I'm also listening to the Italiano OST, and it has some really good songs on there.

I'm not completely caught up, only just watched episode 20 but that ep was great. It seems the episodes that have to do with the plot are the low points.

I still think this series handles having a plot betwixt an otherwise episodic series better than Bebop did. And I love Bebop.
>>
>>138605554
Well it's part 1 of the 2 part finale. I'm not really sold on Da Vinci as the primary antagonist just yet. Hopefully the final episode will give a good end to this series.
>>
>>138605853
Yeah. Lupin feels better as an episodic series. The episode where they are back in Japan against that cocky detective was pure gold. Felt like a Red Jacket episode.
>>
>>138605857
How are the Italian Exclusive episodes?
>>
>>138605947
Haven't seen them. They aren't as quickly subbed if they are being relased now. They will be on the blu-ray rips later this year.

Halfway through Volume 2 of the Lupin manga. Ordered all the other volumes online which was pricey as fuck.

If you guys don't like reading manga, you should still check these out. Lots of funny great stuff.. and rape.

Just pick up the 1st volume. Cheap as fuck and you get a lot of great stories.

It starts before the series, then there are many scenes from episode 1 and Nix's debut with some new segments in the middle and finally a new event after the Nix debut episode.

OK.

Most of the series was re-hashed Red Jacket stories done in Pink Jacket style and the rest of it sucked. The art was decent though.

The only stories I can recall that were in both Shin Lupin manga and the second anime series were the Urashima Taro pastiche and that story with Lupin becoming a vampire.

2 and 3 are still only around 10 bucks so you should be able to get them online rather easily. Good luck getting some of the volumes 6 and up though. Those go from $30-$100.

>>138610938
Rebecca, god no. Nix is cool but I feel like his government angle is just taking up Zenigata time in anything past Blue Jacket.
>>
>>138610977
So is most wanted original stories?

The Manga itself is really really good. There are some legitimate laugh out loud moments. You should really try to pick up more of them for a good deal

I managed to get volumes 4-13 for $190 plus $20 shipping. (Already had volumes 1-3)

If I were to have bought them individually on amazon for example, it would of cost me over $350 and that doesn't even count all the shipping.

This was only a few weeks ago. If you want them, you better get them now because they won't be re-released and the price will only go up.
>>
>>138611003
Rebecca is fine in my opinion. She doesn't annoy me as much as fujiko, and she's a real cutie

if only the series wasnt TV14, we may actually be able to see her tits

That's messed up. It's cool to bring up Lupin as a tribute to the franchise, but you can't just have Punisher kill them. It's disrespectful to the creators. It's not even a fun parody, it's pretty much a flat out insult to the characters.

That's sad considering I've been killing to see a Lupin series that actually had a big story that would slowly unravel to the end.

The Mine Fujiko show had that where you have some episodic episodes, but there was still a main story which was a great concept. unfortunately the main plot wasn't that interesting, despite me still really liking the series.

Hopefully If they continue part 4 for a second season, they'll have the characters leave Italy and focus on a more interesting story arc.

Perhaps a story arc that focuses on the return of Mamo, since Lupin has been lacking a great villain for decades

I just keep in mind that the readership probably didn't know or care that they referenced Lupin at the time. To them, it'd be strange if he didn't kill them.

That said though, I really don't like the Punisher all that much.
>>
>>138613650
I love the Punisher and his comics. Him killing them isn't a problem. It's the writers of that comic which annoys me. They should know some ex Vietnam Vet couldn't kill the worlds greatest thief. Don't use characters if you know nothing about them.

I usually can't stand english dubs of anime. They just feel weird and wrong. I blame the fact that my mom is a huge weeb and I grew up watching only subs.
But I can only watch castle of cagliostro in English. I just love the dub of that movie so much. All the voice actors are superb, every bit of it makes me grin.
Is it just nostalgia?
The English dub also has one of my favorite lines.
"Who wants to get fat off gourmet food and fine wine with beautiful women in a lush tropical setting anyway?"
>>

Don't play dumb. He's obviously referring to the Manga dub.

the Streamline dub was shit.

I don't agree with his post because there are a lot of amazing dubs. There are some that are better than the original. Lupin dubs have been great for the past 16 years although I do prefer the original Japanese EXCEPT CoC.
>>
>>138614370
>No one would be pissed

Yes, they would. Some enough to send in an angry letter or two. The iconic character for them in this case would be the Punisher, not some thinly veiled references to an anime they had never seen.
>>
>>138615146
I didn't watch either dub I just knew of their existence. I thought maybe I would watch a dub on a rewatch sometime.
>>
>>138615193
What exactly would make them mad? Him not being able to kill some thieves? You make Punisher readers sound autistic.

I'm not saying have the Lupin gang take a shit on him, Have them slip away somehow. No once can be mad about that. just don't have him murder them because it's disrespectful to the people who made those characters. It's really not a big deal.

To be honest, I think a lot of the folks that read American comic books are on the spectrum. But that's another topic.

>>
Just came back from discotek's site. Jigen's Gravestone is in their catalog now, but it says the price is $25. what the fuck? I paid only $20 for the castle of Cagliostro Blu Ray on there, and that had 3 different versions of the film and also a commentary track, and a shit ton of special features. Jigen's Gravestone is only 2 OVAS that are less than an hour long. Why is it more? I expected in to be $18 at the most>
>>
>>138621298
Dunno for sure, but it might be because they commissioned their own dub instead of licensing an old, cheaper track; the Japanese parent company might've wanted more money to license it; or that it's way more niche and Disco's not expecting nearly as many people to pick Gravestone up.

It's not a huge markup, but it would be nice if it was cheaper, yeah.

I could only afford V1 of World's Most Wanted but it was fantsatic.
>Most Wanted to me felt like a mix of all of Lupin, but done in the crazy style of Pink Jacket.
This is a really, really wrong way of describing it; that's just how Monkey Punch's style evolved and the last volumes of the original series have the same look. Pink Jacket was inspired by MP's later style but even then it's not quite the same.

The art's more than just "decent", it's a huge evolution from MP's old art which was already good to begin with.

Also, it's very likely the red jacket episodes adaptaed the Shin Lupin/WMW chapters, not the other way around. After all, green jacket had adaptations of stories from the first series, and Red Jacket started some months AFTER the Shin Lupin manga.

Well, the US actually has stronger parody protection/fair use laws so they'd actually have an easier time doing those kind of gags if it was an American production.

Japan just tends to be very passive and schizophrenic about enforcing copyright, which by all accounts is stricter than the US but isn't quite as litigious, hence the doujin industry.

Personally I like Blupin, even the more plot related episodes just because of how off the wall the "plot" is

>Don't know how Fujiko denies him.
She doesn't deny him. She accepts Lupin for who he really is, and in turn is his ideal woman.

Do you think Lupin steals shit because he just really wants these items we never see or hear of again?

No, dipshit. He likes the thrill of the chase. Why do you think he never bags any of the pussy that flings itself at him? Because that's not actually any fun to him.

So Fujiko is perpetually the one that got away, the thing he wants to steal the most but is always out of his reach. Do you know how hard that makes Lupin? Did you think that her playing coy was all a giant coincidence? Do you really think she's that stupid? She's more than capable of stealing shit on her own, but do you really think she's just coincidentally always where Lupin is at?

If she really didn't love Lupin and didn't want his attention, she'd put out so he would get bored and move along. Instead, they're co-dependent soulmates who have the most unorthodox relationship ever.

The 1st season of the Keroro anime seemed to really fear getting sued, so the parodies of non-Sunrise/Kadokawa stuff generally avoided the original designs quite a bit. The overall scene references the car chase from Cagliostro though, and the Jigen guy (alongside not-Lupin's hairy arms) makes them identifiable enough.

I found an old forum in which someone says Cagliostro was referenced in the original Teen Titans show. Anyone know the story?
>>
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987): Word Of God (David Wise) has admitted April's yellow jumpsuit and minicamcorder outfit was based on Fujiko Mine's outfit from the Japanese anime Lupin the Third.

Teen Titans homages the famous hillside car chase of The Castle of Cagliostro in the episode "Car Trouble".

The Simpsons - Season eight episode, Bart After Dark, the one where Bart has to work at a burlesque house. There is a scene where Bart is falling down a roof that looks like The Castle of Cagliostro that even the people in the audio commentary mention it.

Batman: The Animated Series has a The Castle of Cagliostro homage with a battle in a clock tower with many similar shots.
>>
>>138609401
>>
Fooly Cooly, episode 5: Kamon (Naota's dad) dresses as Lupin and rambles about jacket color, then spoofs the 2nd series opening. See page image. The 2nd series and Castle of Cagliostro are mentioned and Monkey Punch is referred here as "Mr. Monkey". Also, the title card appears in typewriter style!

Cowboy Bebop shines with Lupin influences.
The art style (foot shapes, anyone?), character personalities (From gruff, bearded voice of reason to the self-serving female protagonist), and long elaborate money-making-missions that (while successful) never really pay anything.
In episode "Sympathy for the Devil", the little boy who plays the harmonica wears a green jacket, yellow tie, and black dress shirt. A clear Series 1 reference.
Character inspirations:
Spike = Lupin. Even though he is way more laid back and not as much a woman chaser as Lupin, he still has that same charisma, and kind of feels like a less goofy Cagliostro Lupin. Also, he has the same boots as Lupin.
Jet = Jigen. He's Spike's partner in crime and has the same laid-back attitude as Jigen. You can also see the same type of friendship they hold to the point of living with each other and having a deep trust for each other in their missions. He also has that same distrusting attitude towards woman and you can see in how he treats the female protagonist.
Faye = Fujiko. Even though Fujiko is a lot more sexual and sneaky, Faye isn't above ripping off the group in the same way Fujiko does even though Spike doesn't show an attraction to her in the way Lupin does with Fujiko (or almost at all it seems).
Vicious = Goemon. Vicious is similar in appearance, and both characters rely on katanas in a universe of gunslingers. Vicious' icy personality and ruthless ambition is a dark mirror of Goemon's stoicism and pride in his abilities/dedication to completing a task. Likewise, Vicious is Spike's Rival Turned Evil (well, remained evil), whereas Goemon is a rival to Lupin who experienced Defeat Means Friendship.
>>
In an episode of Crayon Shin-chan, he appears as Lupin "IV" and his friend Kazama as Zenigata.

Genshiken, a manga/anime about otaku naturally invites the creators to make a few references to long-running anime series in anime and manga continuities.
The Beach Episode had the two most otaku of the group building The Castle of Cagliostro out of sand; clock tower included. Modarame, the leader, was expressing his interest in the series, which movie he liked the most. One of the other guys there actually said he liked The Fuma Conspiracy the most. Also, Modarame goes into an explanation about a failed Lupin film that was supposed to be the 3rd movie, but it got scrapped and 2 years later, Legend of the Gold of Babylon was made in 1986.

In My Bride Is a Mermaid, there's a girl called Mawari Zenigata who shares some of the personality traits (and last name) of Inspector Zenigata. In the manga and anime, Mawari is the daughter of the chief of police and has a crush on Nagasumi (the main character). She's also the leader of the Public Morals Committee, the police group of the high school she goes to.

Looker from Pokémon. An International police agent who shows up in Sinnoh to try and arrest Team Galactic. He also wears Zenigata's signature outfit.

>love the aesthetic and general art design and style of the woman called mine fujiko
>it has the worst plot of maybe any anime i've ever watched

anyone else feel this
>>
>>138652982
I disagree with you strongly.

Although I agree about the art being great, but saying it has the worst plot or even one of the worst plots in all of anime is a huge exaggeration. I can name a hundred anime with much worst plots.

Though I admit the main story was weak (mostly because Fujiko is not a very good character and she was the main focus of the show)

I still enjoyed the show regardless. The episodes that were somewhat episodic were still fun and easy to watch.
>>
>>138653182
every episode besides the first (which admittedly is really great) was really fucking stupid and felt lazy. like the communist episode or the opera episode i just don't even fucking understand what i am watching it's like the subtitles don't even matter because it doesn't make any sense.

also it's ironic that mine fujiko, one of the more strong females in anime, sexy and strong and always in control, gets her character completely butchered in an anime that supposedly focused on her. the anime is even adapted by a woman as well.
>>
>>138653264
everything you said in the first half of your post is strictly subjective and can only be judged by how much enjoyment the viewers get from watching it. I felt it was a very throwback to 1970's conspiracy movies. It's all about your tastes

I don't think her character was so much butchered because she acted how we have always seen her, but took it really far. Plus she was damaged due to the events of the story and the reveal at the end (which was also pretty weak) She's always been a whore and a backstabber. They just decided to go full force with it in this series.

drag on*
>>
where's everyone at?
>>
>>138654244
While I agree that it drags on a bit, it's really a minor problem in my opinion.

As for why it's my favorite, that's because it has the best plot and the best villain IMO.
>>
>>138654849
actually it is a pretty big problem, because once you feel something dragging on for too long, Your attention span keeps you from enjoying any film to the fullest degree. I really like the film, but that was something that not only makes me like it less, but I constantly forget scenes in the movie due to it having bad timing.

I will say I agree it has the best villain of the franchise but let's be honest. ;upin isn't know for having memorable villains. I think they should bring back mamo and make him the main villain for a new series. I dont know if the film has the best plot. I mean it was different and cool, but i'm sure if I think hard enough, I could probably think of a better one.
>>
I wonder if the thread will make it to 300 posts. Lupin threads don't usually make it to that many.
>>
>>138654985
I mean no offense, but you're kinda trying to project your own experience onto me. I've already said that I didn't feel it was that big of a deal. Furthermore, I find it pretty easy to watch without getting the least bit bored.

As far as plots go, I feel that Mamo is the best because it affects Lupin on a more personal level than in other entries.
>>
>>138655412
I apologize if you felt I was projecting my experences onto you. It wasn't my intention. I was just trying to look at it from a objective point of view. Perhaps the point of view of someone who isnt familiar with the franchise and once to get into lupin. I just wanted to point out the faults of the film and how they could become a problem. I think it's great and a must watch film for all Lupin fans.

The plot does effect Lupin on a personal level but there are other films like Nostradamus and Walther P38 where Lupin is deeply affected by other characters he cares for whereas Mamo messes with him Psychologically. There all different and can show how certain things can really affect Lupin in different ways.
>>
>>138655811
wants* not once.
>>
>>138655811
Ah, I apologize for jumping the gun a little then. I do have to agree that it's not really the best for a newcomer to start with as tension between the main characters is a pretty big chunk of the film and a newcomer wouldn't really care.
>>
I wonder how Lupin's thought process works. He knows what he does is wrong, but doesnt care, yet he does care fore people and is willing to help them. I wonder what he'd be like if you could just sit down with him for a few hours and just have a conversation. He apparently has the intelligence of some of the worlds greatest scientists, historians, and mathematicians. How does he tick.

Even though I find myself watching a lot of subs nowadays because of me being tired of waiting for dubs to come out, but I'll always be thankful for what they've done for me, and If I were to ever watch those shows again, I'd probably watch the dub.

>>
>>138657540

>>
>>138657540
Red Jacket has 155 episodes and it got to be that long simply by being a lot more popular.
>>
>>138657291
I don't remember it at all.
>>
>>138657540
Technically The red jacket was the original color chosen for Lupin the the Manga. He also wore the Red Jacket in the Pilot film which happened before the green jacket series. Then it was decided that Lupin would wear the green jacket in the 1st series because that's what the wrters preferred.

The show got canceled after about 23 episodes because the ratings were bad. No one was watching it, but People begain watching re-runs of it after it got canceled so they decided they would make a new show.

The new show would have him wear the red jacket because that was his original color in the manga and the pilot film. It lasted 155 episodes because people loved the 1st series and so they watched this series. The ratings were good so it lasted longer.
>>
>>138657589
Yeah, but that artstyle looks like a shit. What happen to Jigen's nose? Seriously man?
>>
>>138657647
The designs of the Red jacket series were bad because no one was sure if people were going to watch it because the 1st series had low ratings, so for the red jacket series, they made it for less money just in case. Later in the series though, after it became really popular, the quality got a lot better.
>>
>>138657683
OK. And my last question... Why Pink jacket looks like the worst?
>>
>>138657737
It's not that Pink jacket looked bad. The animation was great. It was the artstyle you probably didnt like. It looked like that because that's how the characters looked in the original manga. Everyone in it had big chins and it was very cartoon like.
