Watching it for the first time now, something always comes up when I start. It's pretty solid.
It's clear to me some jokes just don't translate well, and it definitely relies on the ol' japanese tsukkomi reaction face schtick a lot. But it's still pretty solid.
Also I'm not really loving professor but I already had a conversation about that on /a/ and after about 6 people told me to kill myself one dude explains it gets better.

whatever. Hakase's parts were my favorite and nearly every bit made me laugh.
I liked hakase more than all the other characters.
How bad is it bad that like half of the helvetica standard's punch lines went over my head? A few jokes during normal episodes as well, or so I assume. Like the girl who finds a gun inside a book. I'm not sure I should be reading into that like I would with Shakespeare or just find it ironic that her long journey was for nothing.
I guess I'm not familiar enough with Japanese culture or whatever.

Nichijou has 10 volumes of around 200 pages each.
It's still fresh enough in my mind that I don't feel as if I need to re-watch it.
Even after all these years.
However I do listen to the soundtrack regularly as it's a big part part (relatively; approximately 5%) of this big playlist (1161 entries and growing) of assorted songs that i listen to when sleeping and/or just chilling out.
It's legitimately my favourite anime of all time.

I wish there had been more interaction between the groups of characters on this, it's literally like they're all in their own show. I think the only time gundere is in a scene with the 3 main girls is when Yuuko bumped into her by a vending machine and where Mio gets ntr'd and goes on her epic dash.
You could literally edit out all the separate scenes and have different shows with each group.

I just couldn't get into the humor of it. The animation and the art style is nice and I'm no stranger to Japanese comedy but this show just didn't click with me.
Til this day I am still trying to work out what so funny about "Selamat Pagi" or why the statue being put in some teaches locker had /a/nons splitting their sides I lose sleep trying to work it out.
I had to get a new computer after I watched it the last time, so I'll need to redownload the BD batch to watch it again.

I'm pretty sure they were trying to be funny by having Yuuko repeat something over and over again with the pay off being Mai responding to it, same deal with the statue they mentioned a very specific statue could have been anything was the pay off the lolsorandom guy on the goat?

Not him but I found plenty of Nichijou's humor are follow ups. For example the last scene of the last episode iirc was a direct follow up of the very first scene in episode 1. Selamat pagi and many other jokes and skits follow the same dynamic.

I see the constant presence of Japanese cultural trinkets just as something to give the series a consistent personality. Unless I really am oblivious, they're not required for the joke and the lost-in-translation excuse is just an excuse.
Like in the first episode when Yuuko gets hit by a kokeshi, akabeko, and a salmon steak, would the joke have been funnier to Americans if those objects were replaced with a Glock, a Bible, and a raw ground beef patty? Possibly, but it's still randumb.
