Frankly I prefer it more that the villain are near 100% evil, just don't make them stupid evil. In real life there are people who violate other purely for their own benefits/amusement too. Having that kind of villain doesn't mean the series is not "adult". I am actually annoyed by villains from newer mahou shojo series like Nanoha, Symphogear who turn out to be oh-so-tragic-and-misunderstood and with some hug they are absolved and free to join the endless roster of good guys. Precure villain are better in that they did have reason to be evil and yet we are not forced to sympathise with them and can admire their final moment of glory in their downfall.

Well it is about complicated situations. It doesn't even have to be about sympathising with them. Antagonising some murderer who does it for feel of power and hotpockets is simple. Antagonizing murderer that does it for hotpockets and to feed little siblings is more complicated. I like both, it is about how well it is done.

Just to give some example of precure villain who are "black" yet have enough depths to not be the caricature, see Kumojacky and Cobraja. These two don't have deliberately "grey" motivation (utopia justify the mean etc.) that we are forced to sympathise with them, yet they actually have their own value to justify their evil action. Kumojacky valued only personal strength and the only way for him to develop himself on his pursue of strength was to oppose the precures. Cobraja valued beauty and see human hearts as fragile and ugly, therefore he was obliged to join the desertrian in their destruction of human heart/ heart tree. These two were 100% assholes, yet they were assholes with clear reason of why they choosed that path without over-the-top tragic backstory (It was alluded to in the spin-off LN but never got mentioned in the anime and thus irrelevant or opened to audience's interpretion). They armed themself with their values and faced Marine&Sunshine, who had their own to argue with. Might-make-right and good-vs-evil may played some roles here, but words and thoughts were exchanged and both heroes and villains sincerely try to prove their points.
Every single girl in this franchise comes off as being in desperate need of a dicking.

I guess it's significant for what it is but I can't say I enjoyed it immensely. Like you, I like the cures on their own but there wasn't a lot of interesting story to carry it all for 100 episodes. Surprisingly, I'm okay with Max Heart so far - I'm at the first climax around 22 - but I hear it has the same problem in the long haul.
And I love tons of seasons after FW, though it took a few years before it went from "I guess this is pretty cool" to being truly impressive.

For consistency, probably Smile. For top-end single frames and scenes, I preferred GoPri (though the movies are the real winners here), but Heartcatch had a fantastic sense of movement, and it was generally super clear what people were doing, how they were moving, as well as some of the nicest fight choreography that looked like a good kung fu movie.

Cure designs have never been amazingly good, some of the better seasons do a decent job of creating visual motifs that match the theme, but for how well the team designs match or contrast or evoke bigger notions, it's all pretty samey and no one sticks out that far. The civ designs were amazing up until around and including Suite; just think how easy it would be to reconize pretty much any character from a silhouetted profile from both the front and side and that should give you a sense. For writing, Heartcatch for sure, though Itsuki is an obvious weak point there.

Not sure, but Mahou is making a great showing here.

They're more like songs written into the plot, and I kinda felt like they were just end goals more than pieces that were woven right into the whole show. But when you look at how well they did the music theme in general (with the G-clefs, note-hunting, etc etc), it makes sense that the final magic should be actual pieces of music and they really went bonkers with making everything about music. So maybe I spoke a little too soon and maybe Suite does just as much. But I still think there's nothing inherently interesting about the pieces (musically or structurally) that speaks to Suite in a bigger way.
I guess I think the violin duet was mostly special for its reveal, the way Towa and Kanata held two halves of a song that were firmly established as character theme songs over the entire lead-in to the climactic moment where they revealed that they went together. And in this way, Kanata (and their relationship) could really be what pulls Towa back from the brink, not Flora, which is especially important in their whole arc. Frankly some of the characters should've known and it's a little weird they didn't mention it, but I thought it was still an exceptionally well set up moment that couldn't have been done without the song.
