Dont know honestly. Been watching anime for 4 years and no matter how hard I try I always find shounen to be bland with no substance. I find that most people who like it dont really like anime and just follow one series to death.

Not a lot of thought put into them. Just a goal.
A goal is being a long epic story to inspire kids across nations to strive for more, be better than what they are, always seek their passion and gain strength.
It's an easy and fun idea to get behind, and part of the idea is for the story to go on as long as possible to entertain as many new children as possible and make as much money for the publishers/animators/authors as possible.

That's like saying people don't understand a series if they have a waifu from it, god forbid people derive enjoyment from their feelings from characters. Battle shounen is fucking simplistic, it's extremely easy to understand and generally so lacking in substance that it makes sense if shipping takes precedence over contemplating the depth of the power of friendship. Though the fact that friendship is so important makes it even more logical to focus on understanding the relationships between characters.

I like how a key feature of FMA is that people who are dead should remain dead. If there is one thing that pisses me off the most in most shounen, its that character dies then comes back 10-20 episodes later by some bullshit. Once death means nothing I stop caring about who wins a fight and the show becomes boring.
