I'm not the worlds biggest Maya fan but I'm happy they finally stopped dancing around her reintroduction. The past two games were super weird about how they treated her character, like they wanted it to be some huge earth-shattering reveal when it's just a timeskip redesign.

Phoenix's character is fine.
He was depressed as hell in AA4 and after he ended that chapter of his life he was able to go back to his old career. He's a bit smarter now and has a mentor persona when working with the junior lawyers but when you play as him you see he's still a goofball who's kinda winging things.
I played Apollo after Dual Destinies because I had a hard time tracking the game down and I got the impression that Serious Hobo Phoenix was his lowest point, not a natural evolution of his character.
