Obviously she justifies a lot of her benevolent behavior to herself and to those receiving it through her Tsundere qualities, but overall she's not bad as a deuteragonist in her UBW route and acts as a benevolent antangonist outside of that.

In the end, Rin is more heroic than Shirou ever was. Choosing to be a hero when you have nothing to lose isn't difficult. Shirou chose to be a hero, but it was an easy choice.
Rin chose to be a hero eventually, and she gave up the lifestyle that she had been taught in order to do it. Mages are supposed to put themselves and their bloodline first. She gambled losing her Magic Crest to stop Gil. She risked herself to save Shinji of all people. She gave up everything that was important to her, in order to save others.
Even later in life, she continues to be a hero through mastering magecraft. She learns how to dismantle the Grail, and end the possibility of its evil being unleashed again. Meanwhile, Shirou decides to fix isolated incidents.
Rin Tohsaka is the greatest hero of Fate.

Actually, can multiples of the same Servant exist at one time? I was never super clear as to whether they're still technically copies like counter guardians, what with Kotomine saying that shouldn't have memories of previous summonings, or if having personalities means they're completely the original soul and don't leave anything behind in the Throne of Heroes while they're materialized.
The dictionary in RN does say that Rin+Gil make a good team, but if she can't summon Gilgamesh because he's already there, I assume she'd either get Emiya again due to the pendant, or someone else who could be tied to the snake skin (no idea who that would be, since Enkidu was dead by the time Gil was involved with it).
