It tackles issues of racism and socioeconomic class division by incorporating them into the narrative, while in comparison GATE is heavy-handed with its message (which basically just amounts to "Nippon strong, JSDF righteous"). But GATE doesn't only deliver visually: it also delivers in terms of plot, providing an overly simplistic world view where problems are solved guns blazing since politicians with their silly diplomacy can't get shit done.
