Majority of people are average.

It's not impossible, just extremely unlikely.
The degree of refusal of reality and free time needed to be a proper otaku is something that pretty much the entirety of well-adjusted people wouldn't have.
Attractive people are appealing due to the time they spend grooming, their healthy habits, and generally boosted by the array of 'proper' things they do.
Such a person would never waste their time with a hobby that produces nothing, drains resources, and only makes you an outcast everywhere but in circles made of people who will all be worse than you.

Attractive people have a massive head start in the social game, attractive women moreso than attractive men. They will automatically be liked more, even by people of the same gender, and are even more likely to get jobs as long as they avoid looking like bimbos. Because of this, they are more often out about town and less likely to indulge in the hobbies of the isolated. In as far as they're into games and anime, they're into the socially acceptable kind. They casually play Call of Duty and have watched Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online once or twice.
So an attractive person being an "otaku", as in a hardcore borderline obsessive anime fan, is nearly impossible.
The closest you can get are "anime gurls xD" or "gurl gamers xD" who do it more for the attention of unspoken for men than actual interest.

Well, most of shoujo, josei, magical girl and other female-oriented otaku shit encourage women to take care of themselves and look good, so I guess is more likely that female otaku look at least decent (makeup and clothing tips are a very common thing to find in shoujo and magical girl genre) or at least try to. No idea for western female otaku, though.
Also, men experience, in comparison to women, less peer pressure to look good and groom themselves, which is why they don't feel the urge to look good and can let a lot of things slip by.
If were talking manga, its probably reasonable to assume that stories with good looking boys are written with the female audience in mind, and the female audience doesn't have a huge demand for otaku love interests. I'm sure they exist (OPs example for one) but theyre just not in demand as much when compared to the reverse.

There are instances where boys and girls were considerd ugly for most of their childhood and were isolated. In the end they would turn out to be decent looking, but years of isolation made them unable to understand how society works and thus unable to function as part of society on the same conditions other people who weren't ostracized do.
