Modal Soul > Spiritual State > Metaphorical Music
Modal Souls is the only album I'm really a huge fan of. The first two songs that open the album up are absolutely brilliant. The Singn has some great writing to it. World's End Rhapsody is one of the grooviest hip-hop tracks. Light of the Land is absolutely amazing too. Don't like Luv 3 or any of the other Luvs because quite honestly I think Shing02 is absolutely fucking awful. In total Modal has 5 tracks that are extremely memorable, the rest of the tracks are absolute top quality as well (aside from Exclipse which I don't really dig), and only one stinker.
The only tracks that were grat enough for me to remember without loading up Metaphorical in foobar are the opener and Beat Laments. The vocal performances from the featuring artists feel weak but the beats themselves are great, and while the instrumental tracks are not as melancholic as they were in Modal, they still manage to hit a spot.
Spuritual is just... I honestly can't remember anything that graet about it, and that's why I intially rated it below Spiritual State, but I'm relistening to it right now and honestly the beats are substantially more emotional. The production sounds quite muddled in comparison though.
Overall feeling I have with the 3 albums is Jun's beats are really great, but aside from Modal Soul, the coval performances feel very amateurish and the albums could do with less of the. Hydeout Productions is on a whole higher level though.

The only difference is which album is suited to each occasion.
Modal Soul is for those moments when you want some hip, groovy music that pumps you up.
Spiritual state is for bright, warm, sunny days perfect for a little walk in the park.
Metaphorical Music is for all occasions, but I guess it was ever so slightly weak.
But Feather and Spiritual State (track) is a step above others. No other tracks even compare.

Because a good majority of his material is really underwhelming what's good is really good but champloo definitely has the best variety among all of his material because he had collaborators. The fact you didn't mention metaphorical music which is his best solo work is just as puzzling to me as the idea that the best of his work was with co-producers.
It's even weirder to me that you'd have this overtly negative a reaction over Nujabes of all people, hip-hop and japan have much better to offer for you to be so incredibly upset about.

It's because he's an artist who many people genuinely feel connected to. His music speaks to the soul like a lot of other hip hop artists never achieve.
I mean I didn't like any hip hop at all until I heard Nujabes. In fact I would say I actively disliked it but he completely changed my perspective of what that genre of music was about. I still don't like most of it but I'll give it a chance at least.

Nujabes is great. Yeah Id say some albums put him close to god tier. Hes far better than decent and if theres artists better than him out there than Id say theyre elder god of the nine realms tier.
Id probably disagree with any 'better' you have though if you think champloo was his best.
