I can feed myself healthy and tasty food for $50 a week, three meals a day.
Make however many servings of oatmeal you'd need for breakfast on Sunday night, portion it out and freeze it (I sleep in on Saturdays and Sundays, so five a week works for me). Make sandwiches with whole wheat bread on Sunday night, freeze that too until the day of for lunch. Buy a package of chicken (thighs, breasts, whatever), combine with small potatoes and vegetables in a dutch oven and cook until done with a little salt and pepper. Doing your diet like this lowers your excuses, too; there is no "I forgot breakfast/lunch, better eat fried fat". You already made it, now eat it. Spend no money on soda, it is killing you. Push ups, sit ups, and running cost you no money. Eating and being healthy is not that hard or expensive. Hang around /fit/ for a while, get some motivation there.

It's more the practical side of things
If you're sick enough to be admitted to hospital, then you're likely going to be chair-bound or bed-bound for a number of days.
One of the first thing you notice (especially if you're a guy) when you're lying flat is that it is hard to pee lying in bed because you sub-consciously inhibit your body of doing so. If you're sick enough to be unconscious then you're lucky. Either your bladder eventually enlarges to override your brain's inhibition, or the nurses put in a urine catheter while you're asleep. Being awake for them to put a tube into your penis is uncomfortable, to say the least.
If you're not turned regularly in bed, you develop pressure sores - and quicker when you're heavy. It may require at least two people to roll you safely - so if the nursing staff are turning you often enough you don't get the sores, it equates to additional strains on their labour burden so it quietly nurtures their fatigue and resentment. That's not counting the other times when they have to roll you to wash you or try to nudge a bedpan underneath when you shit.
There's of course mechanical hoist to help lift you, but don't be surprised if they're limited and 2-3 wards have to share one.
And let's face it, strong young males don't want to become nurses. I mean, have you acquainted with any such person(s) before?
Since you spend most of the time in chair/bed, you're virtually guaranteed to have to get needled once a day for DVT prophylaxis.
On the topic of needles, obese people have such terrible venous in general you can expect 2-3 attempts for a single cannula.
You spend 2 days lying, then you start to decondition. If you're very lucky, an extra day of ward-based physiotherapy is enough to get you back on your feet. But if you lie for longer, or you're just that weakened, you're looking at another 3 or 4 days. And the longer you stay, the more likely you'll catch an infection in the hospital.
