We've been over it enough times, its easy enough. The Otome manga is pretty great even if the anime falls flat.

It seems like people are trying to revive it as a relevant thing along with Code Geass but right now it's crystal clear the big topics in the Western community that posts on the internet are whatever Kyoani is doing, whatever A-1 is doing, whatever Shaft is doing. Fate, Monogatari and Madoka. Sunrise couldn't buy attention these days for one of their shows Mai-Hime or otherwise unless it's for thread shitting purposes like a Gundam series. Modern /a/ would probably label it too shonen, action-filled and not philosophically pretentious enough in a post Madoka landscape.

The only thing Sunrise Studio 8 really seems to have on the table are Sunshine and Accel World and it's a miracle the latter is even happening. Sunrise doesn't do much for late night TV these days, most of the shows they'd have probably handled in the past get farmed out to A-1 instead while they focus on their own general audience oriented IPs.

I liked Mai-HiME because Mai was a reasonable, likable person in unreasonable circumstances. That's also why the early deaths had such an impact -- they were such a gut punch to people who didn't deserve them. That aspect of character development would still play well these days, with so many anime stuck on paint-by-numbers fetish checklist casts.
But Otome doubled down on the other popular parts of the show (lesbians, flashy battles, little girls), so I'm not sure a new HiME would be able to stand out among other modern anime.
