manga buyfag thread
old about a year ago

moved and in my new place i cant get far enough back for a good picture so now i have to split it up

>live around normalfags
>work with normalfags
>family are all normalfags
>occasionally bring a normalfag girl over to have sex with
>forced to suppress my power level to undetectable levels
Sometimes I wish I was a fat, balding loser like the rest of this board that didn't need to care about what people thought of me.
I don't have too much.
>>136280694
i missed the opportunity to say "yourshelf"

Is everything to the left of crono crusade is a xlibrary
shit i forgot the pic
4/4 for real this time. not pictured: spice and wolf1, astral project 4, and deadman wonderland 1 which were loaned out at the time
Are there any blaring series omitted?
I'm looking looking for some good English series to waist my money on.
>>136280745
>caring what normalfags think
Stop being a normalfag.
>>136280941
Unfortunately I live in reality and this is simply impossible.
>>136281171
>I live in reality
Fuck off normalfag.
>>136281287
Okay, senpai.
>>136280931
>A Bride's Story
That's good stuff anon. I just got volume 7. I also just got Wandering Son, my friend recommended it, so I hope it's good.
>not alphabetically sorted
Fucking kill yourselves.
>>136280931
>this collection
is this the year 2000
I usually import Manga because US will not license them
>>136281452
grabbed it last week at a library discard sale for $0.50
Haven't opened it yet. but i've heard good things.
>>136281490
I was more worried about keeping entire series on one shelf and keeping authors works together.
>>136281599
Getting the whole set for the price of 3 volumes of translated manga doesn't hurt either.
>>136281728
That's how i got those anon and this too
>>136281728
Wish i could read moon-runes but I rarely pay full price for mangas.
Mosh of everything in my collection i got for $4 or less
>>136280745
>occasionally bring a girl over to have sex with
yes, you are a fucking normalfag
>>136281599
I only import Jojo.
>>136281819
It was gambling manga that motivated me to start studying. Anime that doesn't get subbed is really rare nowadays, bit there's so much manga that neither fans or corporations can be bothered to do anything with.
>>136281861
As you should anon
for Some reason I hardly import Seinen manga except for Killer Killer Girls and Nejimaki Kagyu
>have around six, maybe 7-8 boxes chock-full of mango
>nowhere to put them (bookshelf-wise)
>wish I could sell them or something but no idea how to do so
>>136281854
>sex is a normal fag activity. No. Get out.
>>136280745
Is it really so hard for you to pick a girl that likes manga? Wasn't too hard for me, and I'm a fat loser.
>>136282036
She doesn't even need to like it, just be tolerant of the activity and not suddenly think he's a "fat balding loser" add he characterized us.
>>136282036
Yeah, it is. Not easy finding one. And the ones I know could be zoo exhibits.
>>136282079

>>136281966

I like your taste, anon.
How would /a/ describe the smell of fresh manga?
>>136282155
its a shame it only has 3 volumes

>>136281966
Importing serialization can be fun. I get my kindai mahjong every two weeks and it's exciting to get cozy and check out the next chapter of 7 or 8 different series.
>>136281599
Based anon, I will probably pick those up soon. I just want to get caught up with my volumes for Tsugumomo and I still need to grab all the volumes for Boku Girl first.
>>136282216

>>136282232
I like you anon
>>136282258
Hell yeah nigga
Just started about a month ago, not much to show yet
>>136282216
Yeah, sucks it was canceled. The author's doing a new oneshot this month though, hope he can get serialized again.
Is the newish Ultraman manga worth buying? The one by the Linebarrels combi.
Thanks for reminding me I wanted to import Twin star exorcist as well
>>136282232
I know the feeling. Gets kind of hard when I can't bring myself to throw anything away and I have to find room for another bookshelf.
Also, why is manga so much cheaper than American comics?
>>136282482

>>136282377
>>136282489
I am surprise you buy magazines you must have alot
Is it ok to buy localized manga where I can? I just like reading out of books so much more than a screen.
>>136282532
What do you mean, a volume of manga vs. a trade paperback? Likely because one is black and white while the other is in color.
still waiting to get a new book shelf
I own a shitton of older licensed manga unfortunately
>>136282535
Pretty much just those, a few issues that came out since that filled up, and a bunch of random old issues in my closet I bought for scanning.
>>136282600
I didn't realize there was that much Conan manga.
>>136282643
How are you with Light Novels? I can stumble my way through manga, so I got cocky and bought the whole set of kino no tabi, and quickly recognized my hubris.
Would post, but it hasn't changed since the last time I bought manga, and I don't think I buyfagged in about 2-3 years now. Sometimes I feel like getting more again, but after you stop buying for a couple months, you are broken of the addiction.
I only put books up on my shelf if I've finished them, I actually have a rather large backlog. Especially with Barnes n Nobles still having that buy 2 get on free with manga. I don't know if they still are. I also have some other books in my college dorm. Then my anime DVDs are on the shelf below.
>>136282777
That's pretty much exactly what happened with me. I can get through Bakatest alright, but I tried reading Hataraku and it took me ages to even get through the first chapter.I'm just buying the English releases now, won't be able to read LNs in Japanese for a while.
>>136282786
same here-haven't bought for like a month
mosty started this thread for recommendations/see if there were series i haven't heard of in other peoples collection
>>136281966
What's the manga on the top row?
>>136283051
Gekka Bijin.

>>136282206

>>136280644
>>136280610
Get some hemnes you fags.
I just bought the first volume of YowaPeda. I'm looking forward to reading that.
Forgive the shitty picture, I can't be bothered to take a better one right now. I have another box of books I have no room for at the moment, and I'm waiting on Kizu to get another fucking printing.
Go ahead and give me shit for it being all disorganized. I'm trying to get new furniture for my little apartment. I have a box of the rest of my stuff in my closet.
>>136283765
I need to get those Jojo HCs.
>>136283908
You really should, they're great. I just recently got the latest volume of Jojolion, I'm loving those covers. When I have the funds I want Jojo 6251.
My collection. I tend to favor stories with a certain archetype regarding girls and guys.
>>136283761

Why not, I spent a long time learning Japanese and I enjoy the original covers.
The magazines and some of the LNs can't be found in English.
can't find saber rahs on sites in the guide any suggestions?
>>136284405

>all that jojo
Fuck you France.
>>136285037
They got some good shit.
Oh man I can't wait for a whole thread full of normie weeaboos who spend thousands on pig disgusting localized manga. Kill yourselves
>>136284849
I can't quite remember right now but around 8,000~ish for all of them I think? Might be a little cheaper.
Looking around now they seem to be way more expensive due to limited production, the Miyako plates are probably pretty pricey too.
I'm away from my house right now, my collection is pretty small anyway but this is what I picked up over the weekend (watamote 6 is in the mail)
>>136285316
>watamote
/v/ please leave.
>>136285316
wings looks interesting-any good?
Manga and video games, i haven't bought any new manga in a while...
Small collection
Have all of the Pluto volumes coming in the mail
>>136285579
only good for its art in my opinion.
>>136284405
Miyabro? Good to see you.
I'm still jealous of your wide stuff, particularly the Miyako plate. I'm guessing you have all the wide figma and BQs too by now?
>>136285635
i'll add it to the list, but not the tobuy tonight then.
>>136285037
Is their Dumpire release good? Atleast I think they're the ones who licensed that.
>>136285285
Most of the official stuff is really expensive now, I paid way too much for the boxes of the lucky dip keychain figures and customs charges on top. I can't justify paying 150 dollars worth for a crappy plate even if it does have Miyako on it or hundreds on those plush toys.
No pics but recently added to my shelf:
Ajin volume 1
Inuyashiki volume 1
Gyo
Strike Witches: Fuso Sea Incident
Trigun Maximum Omnibus 5(I have volumes 1-12 in singles but decided to get the last two volumes in omnibus format)
Anything I should be on the lookout for localization wise? Planetes just got a reprint in omnibus format so that's going to be the next thing I buy and A Girl on the Shore comes out at the end of the month. I've also considered getting the first volume of Gakkou Gurashi too.
>>136285658
Yo! I have both the Miyako and Yuno Beach Queens, Nendos and Figmas.
>>136285037
I have pretty mixed feelings about them. In recent years they have improved considerably, but I'm not especially fond of getting omnibus releases at the expense of cover art and color pages. At least they've come a long way from the KnJ debacle nearly ten years ago.
>>136285891
Vertical is doing Nichijou.
>>136285893
What's the quality actually like on the plush stuff?
>>136285940
I was aware Nichijou was coming out along with Servant x Service, didn't know Veritcal were doing it. Now looking forward to it more. They did a very nice job with the presentation of Ajin and Kizumonogatari.
>>136285827
It's named My Monster Secret if you're looking for it. It was only released a few days ago I think.
>>136285940
Wasn't Nichijou supposed to come out years ago, right around when Bandai flunked out of the US market?
Can I post some recent purchases? I'm a pleb without a shelf.
>>136285986
Vertical's Gundam the Origin are probably the nicest books I own.
How much is new localised manga where you live?
Usually £9-£13 per volume without shipping here which is about $13-$19.
>Order manga off amazon.
>books always come dinked up even pages are bent as fuck.
>actually had a book that was bent in half once.
>ask for replacements.
>replacements come the same way.
>send them back for refund
>just buy all my books in person or online on barnsandnoble now and they always come in pristine condition.
anyone else get their localized manga from barnes and noble? I like how they have a b2g1 free of manga sometimes or even buy 1 get 1 1/2 off also prices seem cheaper then amazon.
>>136286079
$8-$18 depending on publisher.
>>136286049
>Planetes
mah nigga
>>136285855
Just keep an eye out for official re-releases, I got two Miyako plates when they were re-released a while ago.
You never know when they might decide to do more, hopefully if any new anime gets produced or anything new gets announced you might be able to get some of the things you wanted.
>>136285963
Pretty good, its not scraggly or poorly made and they haven't fallen apart at all.
>>136286079
9-13$ if it isn't an omnibus
>>136286052
I've been meaning to pick those up but they are pretty pricey. I wish Ideon would receive the same treatment.
>>136286079
You can usually find some good deals in your local comic shop, whenever I'm in mine I always browse when I go to pick up my monthly pull list and pick up a couple volumes.
>>136286117
I'm so happy to finally own it. You copy?
>>136286104
I usually get manga from Amazon and I haven't had that problem. I'm worried now.
>>136285037
I looked at their site and they're publishing Franken Fran? Fuck yeah.
>>136286079
$11 for a single volume, $20 for an Omnibus.
>>136286173
For me Amazon works fine most of the time. Only bad experience was when I got Kizu it was slightly damp.
>>136286137
Is there any Hidamari stuff you don't have?
>>136280745
>>occasionally bring a normalfag girl over to have sex with
>he fell for the 3DPD meme
Get out faggot and take your 3DPD roastie infected dick with you
>>136286052
I hope they stay in print for another year or two, I really want to just buy them all but I can't afford that shit right now.
>>136286339
>$20+ a book
>hardcover
none of this is needed. even if its that good.
>>136286104
Amazon started using their own contracted or whatever couriers here in England recently. They've delivered to the wrong house multiple times now and said it was handed to resident, it's not like any of the house numbers are obscured or anything. They will leave it in stupid places without putting a leaflet through saying where it is too. You rarely get the option of Royal Mail either, I started using other sites instead now.
>>136286380
$25-$30 in Canada, yeah.
>>136286241
Oh that sucks. Amazon has been great in just about every regard.
>>136286254
Plently.
There are so many things I want but just can't afford to go on a spending spree, I want to get every single DVD and BD release, I want to get all the music CDs + any bundled extras, I want to get the comiket stuff like Hidamari shower curtain, the Miyako rice bowl.
I want to get all the previous issues of Manga Time Kirara Carat (plus the initial magazine Hidamari started out in) I don't have so I can have every issue of Hidamari Sketch released.
There is also special stuff like the Nori Keyboard that would be neat to have.
>>136286457
so why do you like hidimari sketch so much?
Nausicaa box set is next on my list. Any other really good releases that are just one or a few volumes?
>>136286529
I love the characters and story, it quite peaceful and warming to watch and read.
That is the sort of genre I like the most like Aria, YKK, Amanchu, Ah My Goddess etc.
Lets not derail the thread too much though anon.
>>136286743
Maria the Virgin Witch looks pretty good.
>DAT ARTWORK
heres my meager collection
i have more but its just like 5 issues of no need for tenchi, 1 issue of dragon ball, love hina, ranma and 3 hellsings all in english
i left them at my moms house, i got all these in the past year or so the others are from when i was like 10

full of nice pictures, its very calming to read and its really cheap too
they run a blog about cabins and then they decided to make a book and its nice
How do i know to pick up a series if I'll enjoy it?
>>136287908
Read some of it and then take the gamble. Don't buy it all at once if it's long.
Can someone tell me what those little tabs are? I usually buy my mango in sets so they never come with anything like that, a shop benefit perhaps?
op here
just spent $100 collectively on three different websites on manga after 2 months of not buying anything.
this is due to a few cool looking series i saw in some of your bookcases.
fuck you all.
>>136288021
its like book mark or something
it has info on the manga its in too i think
>>136286079
Depending on publisher and format: 4,5 to 7,5 € for regular releases, 7 to 12/13 € for kanzeban reprints/deluxe ones.
>>136288040
What did you get?
>>136280745
No one cares what your hobbies are as long as you don't shove it down their throat. No one cares that you like anime unless you won't stop being a faggot about it.
My dad was captain of the football team and set records in track and field in his HS, but is a huge /m/fag and has everything from SDF Macross to Votoms to Gunsmith Cats. He had no problem marrying a normalfag wife whom to this day doesn't understand why we both like watching cartoons the same way we don't get her mobile game addiction.
There is literally zero reason to hide your powerlevel unless you're an insecure faggot.
I always wonder how mangaka's decide on the panel when drawing a scene or character action and speeches.
>>136288021

Reminder to kill yourself if you buy anything but the original manga.
>>136288021
When you buy a book in store in Japan, they will remove those and use them for restocking purposes, they give the book title, author, genre, ISBN, price etc.
>>136281990
It is though. Stop pretending to be who you're not. You're a normalfag, deal with it.
>>136280745
If you can't enjoy your own hobbies that just makes you a pussy, a failure of a man that won't take the things he wants.
>>136288742
Is What a Wonderful World slowly going out of print or something? I notice Amazon aren't stocking it anymore. I should probably buy both next time I get paid.
So what are some series you'd like to see localized? I think 7 Seeds could prove very popular, it's ending soon I think and not that long and I'm surprised it hasn't been considered for an English release before but without an anime backing it I wouldn't know how it would do in the sales.
>buy all volumes of sundome ages ago
>vol 5 has slight damage on spine and the whole book is faded so doesn't match others
>tell myself I don't care and live with it
>have to move books to new shelf yesterday
>see sundome vol 5
>can't stand the damage any longer
>buy it again
I really have no idea why I didn't just send it back when I first ordered it a few years ago.

>>136289115
It's old enough that it would never happen, but I would buy every issue of Ashita No Joe without a second thought, that's my favorite series.

Good choice on Dungeon meshi, what I read so far is really nice. What's the one to the left, looks like it says Bear Grater or something.
>>136285037

I wouldn't exactly call Biscuit Hammer an ecchi series.

>>136280482
Out of curiosity, how is the quality of paper used? Will these things survive several decades at least? What about yellowing of the pages?
>>136280745
just do it.
>>136289035
>hentai ouji
>hyouka
You have weird taste.
>>136290939
I'm reading Magus Bride right now and it's not ecchi at all.
>>136293321
It varies quite a bit, a few have really nice thick, clean paper. Some have horrible sub-newspaper quality paper, especially the ones with multiple volumes compiled into one. Most feel about as thick as standard printer paper (or at least feel as stiff as printer paper), they aren't quite white and they have a noticeable scratchy, rough-looking texture.
I don't really know anything about paper though so I can't tell you much more than that.
>>136293113
If you're not going to keep them on the shelf you might as well put them in a bag so they last longer.
>>136293778
For some reason that series is super popular with fujoshi.
All shit taste in this thread. Manga is shit in general. Men collect laserdiscs.
>>136294150
It is? I've only read the first volume but it just seems like a nice relaxing fantasy story.
>>136294308
Read the first 3 volumes and the list of people with similar taste on bookmeter where just fujoshi then. It's not like the manga is caterting to them either.
>>136294087
Not too phased about the stack up the side of the shelf, it's justBleach, and I feel like the boxes around the Monogatari novels should keep them good.

>>136286339
>>136286380
>>136286421
I talked to Vertical's representative at Anime Central last year (May), and he said because of the really high printing costs with the colored parts, gloss paper, and hardcover binding, Gundam the Origin will probably only stay in print for about a year after its publishing run. I've picked up volumes 1, 8, 9, 10, and 11 so far so I definitely feel your pain (my library has the full set). I might just end up buying the japanese aizoban and reselling the english ones I have.
I haven't bought anything in a while. Please excuse the out of place copies and multiple copies, OCDfriends.
Fairly old. I'll have to take my potato out some day.
Read through Sumomo Momomo, nothing to write home about but Tenten Koganei a best girl.
Also read through Gakuen Polizi, all the right legos but no idea how to assemble them.
Pls support /ak/-moe, get Strike Witches, Girls und Panzer and Arpeggio.
>>136280632
I envy people that have all of GTO.
>>136296659
>plastic wrapped books.
whats the point? you dont read them?
>>136298678
Could be just protection sleeves for the books. They give those out when you buy manga in Japan, in some stores anyways.
>>136283761

>>136280745
I know what you mean, I’d LOVE to have berserk and sundome on my shelf, but they are both too risqué especially when I have young children running around.
>>136283908
They're so worth it. Everything about them is quality- from the story to the book itself.
>>136289115
Actually most of the top 5 I’d love to see just got picked up. Franken fran, Pun pun, I am a hero, and nichijou. Feelsgoodman
New top 5 that I’d love to see Silver Spoon, Fujiyama-san wa shishunki, Hinamatsuri, okusan, and Youkai Apartment
I would also loove to have tower of god of my shelf, but the author came out and said tankobons never which is pretty lame.
>>136298678
They're similar to pic related, and are just sealed with tape. Not much of an inconvenience at all to open and close the bags whenever I want to read them. And they help a lot with preventing yellowing.
>>136284919
My sister's visiting France and has been sending me pics of the manga section in bookstores. I have to say I'm really jealous of the bigger selection.

I got a B&N Membership a while ago and I'm not a hundred on whether it's worth it. It's definitely cheaper than Amazon to buy, and I feel like it's more fun because of Manga Mondays and the random 20-40% off deals. But sometimes Amazon is still cheaper. I haven't had any shipping issues with either one of them, but that might be a local thing.
Does anyone have a rightstuf membership? Is it worth it at all?

id say its worth it if you buy a lot of books (not just manga). I dont really use amazon for books anymore because of what I said up there and it really just depends where you shop. I know right stuff can be okay sometimes. only problem is that right stuff doesnt give out free shipping with their memebership only small discounts.

I was about to judge you pretty harshly, but then I saw that all-in-one volume of Bone. You're all right, anon.
How can you losers invest this much time into a hobby and not even learn the language?

How can you?

I've had similar experiences with Amazon. I no longer buy comics from them at all, and very rarely do I buy non-picture books. For manga I go to Right Stuf and for western comics I go to instocktrades.com (which also has a decent manga selection) or independent comic/book stores.
Looks like most of you buy localized manga over the Japanese originals. Is it worth it?

I know what you mean, I hate it when I order a book listed in “good” condition, only to open it up to find some mystery food stains bleeding through the pages. Like did you even look at the book before you listed it?
But what I hate even more then that are ex-library books. Don’t get me wrong, if my library is having a discard sale, I’ll buy a bag full of manga at $0.10, especially if I haven’t ever heard of the series before and it looks interesting; But words cannot describe my hate when I order a book in “good” condition, wait two weeks for it to ship, excitedly open it up, only to find a library logo, irremovable stamps, and a coating of tape.
How hard is to hold to standards that have been in place since 1949? Ex-library books are “fair” at best and “poor” at worst! Even if you want to sell it a “good” you are required to CLEARLY MARK DEFECTS!
Luckily when I complain, 9 times out of 10 they give me a full refund no questions asked. But now I have a shelf set aside just for library discards, and to rebuys. Even on that shelf I’ll peel off all the stickers, all the layer of tape, give it a good alcohol rub down to get rid of residue, and use a dremel to sand off all the stamps I can. I’ve gotten pretty good at it.

Heaven's Lost Property will never have an american release.
How the fuck do I go about importing the series without getting jewed out?
Everywhere I see, the prices are cringeworthy.
My collection so far. I'm terrible collecting a whole series' releases before I start buying a new one. Not pictured is the shitload of FMA and Tsubasa my fiancée has, among some other random few volumes of other stuff.

Actually, anime isn't for freaks and losers. Those people are called otaku's and weeaboo's. They are cancer. Normal people have always existed on here it's just the cancerous otaku's and weebs and taken over.

I don't have their membership (didn't even know that was a thing), I just buy from there occasionally. They have decent year-round prices and excellent sales, though.

My absolute pet peeve. I ordered a volume once that was listed as "good" but came to me with library stickers and tape all over, permanent marker on the cover, pen scribbles inside, torn and yellowed pages, and binding so loose it felt like a slight breeze would rip it apart. That was the last time I ever bought something used on Amazon.

Does anime one have a anime video collection? If I start a thread will most of you post? or nah.

Fucking auto correct, Does anyone have a anime video collection...
>buy manga (500yen per volume if new)
>read it once

Because you cant re-sell mangas because western society think mangas are "coloring books for children" and most public libraries reject mangas of their catalog.

Finally decided to collect Berserk after only reading downloads. Pretty much just going to buy 2 volumes a week until I'm caught up.

I actually do reread most of my manga every few years so it's better than just throwing them out.
I should find a more efficient way to stock the books
