I have two answers for this for very different reasons.
My "embarrassing" anime that I like are Naruto and Madoka.
Let's start with Naruto. Naruto I'm embarrassed when in anime savvy circles such as /a/, for obvious reasons. I'ts an entry-level anime that frankly went to shit somewhere in part 2. I know this to be true. That being said I can't not love it 'cause it was the first anime I watched conscious it was anime (obviously I saw DBZ when I was a kid but back then I didn't even know it was anime, it was just a cartoon). Also, it caught me in that 14-16 year old period where everything leaves a huge impression on you. Look, I was a maniac for that shit, I couldn't stop watching/reading it and looking up every bit of lore and stuff I could. As cringy as it is in retrospect, I remember very fondly when me and all my friends at school watched that shit and talked about it every day.
So yeah, even though I know it's shit, and I would never say it in person to anyone who knows a lot about anime, Naruto will always hold a special place in my heart.
IRL though I generally have no problem saying I liking it to casual people 'cause most of them know of it and it's widely considered acceptable by normies so yeah. The one I don't like to admit to IRL is Madoka.
Now, I love madoka and will defend it against anyone, be it on /a/ or any other place. I regard it in very high esteem. IRL though? Yeah, try to explain to normies as a grown ass man about how you think this colorful cartoon with cute little girls doing cute girl things is a masterpiece. Sorry, but I like having a social life.
