real talk I watched S1 few months ago and found it mediocre, the "storylines" are predictable, humor unfunny to the core and quite often obnoxious e.g. fucking ara aras

I'll give you a bit of advice. Try to experience anime more honestly, get in touch with that experience and forget about these dumb artificial criteria that you think you need to enforce. Formal criticism will come later.
A lot better. I sort of felt the same way you did about s1, but I loved Origination and Natural. It also helps that I watched 1 episode of those a night instead of trying to marathon it.

A friend suggested some music for me to listen while reading Yokohama and it was an amazing experience. When I heard the music from the anime ost I was pretty dissapointed, a totally different experience and not as impactful one.

That's a shame, it's my all time favorite soundtrack and I loved listening it while reading the manga. It's also one of the few soundtracks I actively listen to during my free time too. It doesn't always fit the manga perfectly since most of the tracks are really light hearted but the country feel of it mixed with some electronic elements worked well enough for me.

Pretty much this was my problem, I felt it was too much so. The manga itself gave me more of a feeling of melancholy, sure it was calm and heart-warming but it was also dying world in which humans were fading away. The often vast, empty sceneries emphasized that. The stuff I listened to fit that atmosphere more.

It's hard to have a soundtrack that perfectly fits a manga that has more than one consistent mood, YKK certainly has a lot of melancholy but it also has a lot of happy, warm moments in between.

I strongly disagree with this, especially for a Iyashikei show like Aria. Maybe if you were describing an action thriller I'd be inclined to agree with you, but that's not the case here. Aria is a melancholic story about finding happiness and beauty in the mundane and accepting the natural, inevitably changes that come in life. It captures the fleeting, almost mystical beauty in everyday occurrences better than any other anime I have seen. The first season is just an introduction, a well crafted one but an introduction none the less. If you want to grasp a better understanding of the characters, setting, and themes you should watch on.

Not at all, different anime have different forms of comedy, you can't compare the banter in Aria to something like Detroit Metal City or Cromartie.
