I think the main draw for them at the moment is newer readers that like the same as American reading direction and them mostly being in color like American comics. I wont say that there are not a lot of them i read like the Gamer and others but they tend to be lower quality story wise so far. Fun reads but not up to manga standards yet. From what I know of the webtoon scene, it's basically a cut-throat contest between rank amateur webcomickers to see who can get the most views/best ratings.
The top percentile ends up getting serialized in websites like Naver and Daum comics and paid for it.
Really competitive, and it really doesn't do anything for the quality of whatever they output honestly I think.
Korean Webtoon artists don't tend to be professional artists who have a background nor do they have much in terms of editors like Japanese magazine mangaka do. All the sites tend to want is the revenue.

Japanese and Korean are pretty damn similar when it comes to pronounciation.
Korea just has a lot more ending consonant sounds than ã‚“.
Koyomi would be 코요미 and it's pronounced exactly the same, for instance. What's also fun is that the grammar structure is pretty much identical too. You could literally throw a phrase in Japanese into Google Translate for Korean and you'd be able to get something like 90% legible given it's not in a dialect of some sort.
