Is /a/ watching AOTS?

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
>>
Yeah I loved it, really looking forward to the next episode. I was very optimistic about this show and having it meet my expectations feels awesome.
>>
>>135944800
Wouldn't it suit a live action too?
>>
>>135945099
I guess so? It's story-driven so it could tell it in a bunch of ways.
>>
>>135945099
It's based in reality, so a live-action adaptation would be completely logical.
>>
The master really has no apprehension towards taking criminals into his home.
>>
>>135944800
No point making these threads. It's too good to talk about it here.
>>
>>135945309
I feel like he's got some kinda similar background too. Note how well he deals with Yotaro's old boss, he's a tough guy and he's well aware of it.

>>135945329
Don't be gay
>>
I loved what I saw of the first episode but didn't finish because I smelled the
>she really wants to become a rakugoka but the old man won't take a woman as apprentice
plot from miles away and I hate that shit. If it doesn't happen I'll pick it back up.
>>
>>135945454
He literally takes her as an apprentice at the end of the episode
>>
>>135945454
Why's that necessarily a bad thing? It's a male artform so it's something that could've happened, plus she's interesting as a character. Got a strong side but you can really see her insecurities and moments of weakness through it. Probably who I like best after watching it.
>>
>>135945497
Thanks.
>>135945572
Guess I'm still mad after
>you're a girl so you'll never become a swordsman, oh and watch out for those stairs
>>
>>135944800
I wish Yotaro permanently had such a spiffy haircut.
>>
Man this was totally a surprise, this is so fucking great.
>>
>>135945652
I get the cliché you're afraid of but I don't thiiink it'll pan out so stupidly. I don't get that feeling at least, if it ends up bad you can say you told me so.

>>135945701
Yeah, cool suit too. The criminal aesthetic is pretty slick
>>
Now that I've watched almost everything new I wanted to watch for this season.
Yep, it's going to be AOTS for sure.
>>
>>135945277
>>135945191
But also it wouldn't require any (shitty) cgi
>>
I want to make love to her voice.
>>
>>135945948
At last Hayashibara got a good leading character.
>>
Best first episode. Surprise of the season.
>>
>Shouwa
>Dimension W
>Boku Dake
>Dagashi Kashi
>Prince of Stride
Has anime finally been saved?
>>
>>135944800
But that's not AOTS

This is AOTS
>>
Will Yota win the Konatsubowl?
>>
>>135946354
Replace Prince of Stride with Phantom World and yes.
>>
>>135946354
Rakugo is the only one on there I really like, was kinda disappointed by the others that I saw. Still gotta watch Dagashi Kashi and DW though.
>>
>>135946354
You forgot Pandora
>>
>>135946537
I haven't seen it yet, but since it has such a unique staff working on it I will check it out for sure.
>>
>>135946420
No, NTR happens in the manga
>>
>>135946354
The only two shows so far that have a shot at AOTS for me are this and surprisingly enough, Grimgar.

Maybe Boku Dake too if they fixed the manga enough, but I didn't watch it yet.
>>
>>135947081
I'm very excited for Grimgar too, actually. Haven't seen the episode but it at least /looks/ gorgeous. So long as the narrative isn't too horrible I can see myself really liking it.
>>
>>135947081
I thought Dimension W was better than Grimgar, you're right about Rakugo though.
>>
It makes me sad that I know that based ex-Shaft director Shinichi Omate can't carry the show alone and at some point the typical generic Deen staff will destroy everything like it happened with Sankarea where everything broke apart after episode 3 when he didn't provide the storyboards.
>>
>>135947165
>Dimension W
I read the manga so I already know it's pretty bad.
>>135947163
Character dynamics are top tier too. Hope it doesn't get too crawling in my skin once that one guy dies.
>>
I liked it but it moved too fast. For a guy who never takes in apprentice's, Yakumo accepted Yotaro pretty quickly. Not to mention how the part where Yotaro's old criminal boss was resolved so quickly it made the entire plot point lack any real impact, and even that was better handled than when Yotaro was kicked out and accepted again in the next scene. What was a 45 minute episode could've been handled better in 3 or 4 normal length episodes.
>>
>>135945099
taiga drama.
>>
I'm yet to watch Dimension W and Grimgar, but I really liked Rakugo and Boku ga Inai Machi. I believe both shows have plenty of potential.

Dagashi Kashi was really fun. I also liked Shoujo wo Mesazu whatever.

I'm not too sure if I want to watch Prince of Stride, since I'm not into otome-ge.

Watch it anyway, first ep was colorful and breezy.

Not even a 24 min Anime
Fuck off
>>
>>135947773
The first episode wasn't so bad but the show is clearly made for girls
>>
This spring season is weak af.
>>
>>135946354
Dagashi Kashi is shit. Just a comedy show full of cliches and boring plot, kind of like Umaru.
I'am watching the other ones too plus Grimgar and Bubuki.
>>
>>135947502
I dunno man, I can't help but disagree with all of that. It's shown pretty clearly that the master only took him in as an "apprentice" in the first place thinking that he'd be useful around the house, not expecting his level of commitment. More looking for an assistant than an apprentice; he's getting old himself and the only other one there is a woman (gives a little insight towards her place in all this, too). Yotaro also evokes feelings of his old rival, which I think is the biggest reason he was allowed to stay (especially important for retracting the expulsion). The criminal boss too, I felt was done well. The discussion on the porch does a good job building character for both Yotaro and the master. He's also serves as a viewer surrogate for this episode, which I think is really important. I dunno for sure but if I had to guess I wouldn't say rakugo is really something that's big for the target audience. The question of "why rakugo" is something we're asking too. I think we're supposed to get an understanding of the answer at the same time as the boss - during the performance (you'll see the director draw attention to him throughout the show). Leaving quietly also sheds light on the kind of relationship they have; he's seen it as important and has decided not to interfere with Yotaro's pursuit (I think, at least, he may return later in some other fashion but who knows, that's what I drew from it).

None of this really felt like it happened "too fast" - I was pretty captivated throughout, it held my attention well but didn't demand it by throwing too much too fast.

Do other people feel that the pacing was too quick?

Fuck the Erased threads on /a/.

Those fuckers don't know how to use spoiler tags properly. Fucking newfags. That's probably the only thread I'm not going to participate this season because of retards.

Oh well at least my friend told me the manga is solid. Hopefully A-1 stays consistent.
>>
>>135944800
Yeah just finished it, this is going to be good.

>>135945099
Well sure, but have you seen Japanese live action? That stuff is horrid.
>>

>Those fuckers don't know how to use spoiler tags properly.

You've just described the mangafags of every show.

There are four season which are must-haves.

The rest is filler or noise.

I was just gonna make a thread asking exactly the same question as you, OP. It's no doubt the AOTY.

I didn't even know about what it was, other than it was some sort of Shoujo (which is always a big turn off)

>>
>>135949811
you can still kinda sympathize though. the performance he put everything into didn't get quite a reaction, some serious emotions running through ya there
really evokes feelings associated to the performing arts, hits home if you've been through that kinda thing

If I was in his position I would have at the very least gone back when I felt sleepy. Not just fall asleep right next to him. Even if he didn't snore out loudly, it would have been a terrible impression.

American here, thought the story about the burglar was hilarious, that anon is just dumb. The other story was mediocre, but not particularly hard to follow.
>>
>>135950010
It's exactly because you're ESL that you had no problems. People that learn subtitles early in their lives know how to read them and aren't "distracted" by them like Americans are much more likely to be.

I guess I have to spell it out for you.

Not hard to follow in the sense the subs are moving fast or something, but because the stories themselves just aren't that interesting. I thought I was missing something by not completely seeing the guy's mannerisms (which are a big part of rakugo) since I was looking at the subs.

>>
>>135950499
The same could be said about Deen but they're staying consistent with Rakugo.
>>
I had never heard of Rakugo before watching this. I thought the show was just okay until the scene where Yotaro performs for his former boss. It was so strangely gripping and for the rest of the episode I was hooked.
>>
>>135951465
Who is this?
>>
>>135951358
The anime designs are such a massive improvement all around the autists doing the usual shitposting about
>muh source material
look even dumber than usual.
>>
Is any group picking up the best show of the season?
>>
>>135952776
Are you actually someone on this godforsaken board that isn't mind-slaved to Gintama?
>>
>>135952776
Yeah, after hearing Yotaro's monologue about why he loves Rakugo with the expressions and attire of the actor and how he brings the many characters to live, I can now finally understand the rusty and oldfashioned rakugo that is always shown on tv on New Years that was always illustrated as being boring garbage that old people enjoy while teens go outside in their yukatas having outdoorsex.
>>
>>135952854
She's from Hai to Gensou no Grimgar, also a pretty good show, though not as good as Rakugo.
>>
Every season I get anxious that I might miss out on that true gem that's hiding among all the shit.
In the end I never find the time to check out everything and get even more anxious next season till I get so burned out that I watch nothing at all any more.
>>
>>135953781
Don't worry too much about it, watch what you enjoy but might not be good. Gem or not nothing anime releases as of late will be a masterpiece or good. Even this is fine for now but nothing too amazing.
>>
>>135954534
I meant gem more as in personal favourite.
The one anime you accidentally stumble across and you happen to enjoy a lot even though it might be bombing in all the charts.
>>
>>135946537
literally 2003: the anime
>>
>>135953781
I tried to watch every show's first episode but after I'v picked like 6 shows to follow (that's fucking overload compared to other seasons) I just end up skipping the rest.
Like Dimension W or PSO2 or even Sekkou.
I just can't handle more as it is without it becoming a small marathon each week to work the episodes off.

So don't worry about "finding the gem" as you'll just end up loving the next best gem you come across. And having interested stuff mentioned in the next couple of weeks are good indicator of watchable shows and you can note and at least read the synopsis of.
>>
>Nice artsyle
>Quick pace
>Fun characters
>Good soundtrack
>Good action with decent CGI

This show is fucking fun. Why is it that hardly anyone mentions it or if someone does, there's always a reply saying it was shit? What are the actual gripes that people had with this show?
>>
>>135955680
And I killed the thread. Does Active Raid even exist?
>>
>>135956027
I think it's funny. I hope it stays that way though.
>>
>>135955680
I feel really neutral about raid, I don't dislike it, but I don't particularly like it either.
Although I'm biased and don't like the CG, I'm just hoping something changes that makes me like it more.
>>
>>135955680
Skipped over character introductions in favour of an overly long cgi chase scene. And just a general lack of anything engaging in the first episode. Hopefully it gets better once they actually introduce them properly.
>>
I had absolutely no interest in this anime but I've just found out that Shiina Ringo made its opening. Is it good?
>>
>>135956741
It's great.
>>
>>135956690
Maybe that's why I liked it. I understood the characters through how they interact throughout the episode. I remember when Psycho-Pass had a boring introduction and thought it would've been better if it started at the middle of the first episode.

I kept thinking Yotaro was going to beat down the old man if he refused at the start, and when he was told he was expelled. Or he would return back to a life of crime. Thank god I was totally wrong. He really seems like a pretty good guy just seems to be easily impressionable.
>>
>>135957761
Considering his passion for rakugo was based off one performance in prison and the way he treated the gang boss as a teacher, I'd guess he's very easily impressionable.
>>
>>135957620

And yes they're definetely less generic. Also the manga is based on her description, the anime is a travesty, she looks like random villager #12, slutty clothes.
