The new Sailor Moon key art has kind of leaked. It is low quality and black and white, but from what I can tell the design is quite different from the first season of Crystal. Looks less manga and more 90s anime? Will have to wait for hi res and colour, but looks a lot better to me.

Well the art design was given to the same guy who worked on the Precure series so I am not surprised the key art looks nice. Have they finally learned their lesson and will invest more than peanuts this time around? One can dream.

Oh, the director? god knows. I suppose it was never going to reach the heights of the original anime with all the now notorious names who worked on it, but Crystal definately deserved better than the staff it got.
Even though the original art director sucked, I feel the old Crystal designs had the potential to be pretty but the god awful animators and shoestring budget just didn't work for them at all. Hopefully even if the budget is low again these simpler designs make for less QUALITY

I am gonna give it a go, at least the first episode.
I still can't understand why Crystal looked so shit, though. Some people say lack of budget, others say it was a lack of time and decent staff.
The time thing makes no sense. It was delayed so many times, and was released once on a 2/3 week basis. Most productions would kill for such schedules I am sure.
Also, when I look at who was overseeing the animation/ the animation directors for each episode most of them were veterans in the industry who have overseen the animation of many a good anime before. Even though a lot of the episodes were outsourced to companies like Toei Phillipines, even they have done much better work on shows like Precure before.
TLDR; I want to know what the fuck happened to cause such a shitty end product, probably one of the worst ever.
