What do you think /a/'s reaction to Eva would be today? I was rewatching it and I couldn't help but think how everyone would just consider it fujo-pandering pseudo-intellectual shit, and simultaneously complain about there being too much fanservice and not enough loli fanservice.
It hasn't aged well, It would've flopped like most shows that try to go for DEEP plot
It would be called pseudo intellectual pretentious bullcrap for otakus to self-insert as
>>135857001
you mean it isn't?
It's impossible to have this conversation because if Eva hadn't existed, anime and our perception of it would likely be completely different today.
>>135857562
This.
>>135857001
We'd say it references and steals from everything that it once previously influenced.
Unoriginal, trite garbage.
>>135857562
>>135857648
I guess you do sort of have a point. If it hadn't existed we could very well not have all the cliches that people would criticize it for if it came out today.
>>135857001
That image is not really pandering, the sexuality present is a key component in their relationship and characters.
>>135857116
>It hasn't aged well
I think it has.
>>135857116
>It hasn't aged well
I literally watch EVA for the first time a few weeks ago. It deffo holds up
>fujo-pandering
I don't see a problem
>>135857784
You can have something be pandering and have relevance to the story. Besides at the preview at the end of the last episode she literally says something along the lines of "next episode I'll give you fanservice".
>What do you think /a/'s reaction to Eva would be today?
Pic related
>>135857001
>would just consider it fujo-pandering
Almost everything is pandering to fujos, willingly or not. They don't need much except a male character to go crazy with the shipping. And if the character is female, you can bet they'll turn the character into a trans person to make their beloved characters have hawt, kawaii trans sex with dicks.
>>135857001
>fujo-pandering
What.
>>135857116
>It hasn't aged well,
lol
>>135858684
boy fuck off with this shit
I would still really like it.
>>135858906
There are people right now drawing gay stuff with the characters of every beloved series of you. How does that feel?
>>135858743
it does get pretty gay at times.
Imagine how much porn there wouldn't be without Eva.
>>135857001
>What do you think /a/'s reaction to Eva would be today?
Probably something along the lines of "It's disgusting."
Just watched part of episode 2 and misato comes across as an annoying bitch playing on shinji's raging hormones lol
>>135859920
>playing on shinji's raging hormones
She does this, but she truly doesn't know how to deal with him.
>>135857001
It's really hard to imagine moot with anything other than Asuka.
>>135857001
I still haven't watched it. I've watched over 300 shows since getting back into anime after college. I don't know anything about the plot or characters, it involves mechs and there's like a clapping scene. Should I be ashamed of myself, /a/?
>>135857001
Back then it was fresh and different.
Nowadays it would be uninspired rubbish.
However it was, and still is, pseudo-intellectual shit
>>135860391
I haven't watched it yet either desu senpai
This shit killed me then and it killed me now
It didn't only hit home, it fucking nuked it
>>135859920
She tries to fuck him later.
>>135859920
You're not wrong, but it's not like that wasn't what they intended.
>>135857116
Watching it now for the first time. It's above average. Some of the first cour episodes are too episodic but it's otherwise a decent series that keeps you invested.
But yeah it's nowhere near the second coming of Christ like most /a/nons believe.
>>135861400
You just haven't got in deep enough yet.
>>135861523
I'm up to episode 21 but yes I do plan to finish it.
>>135861400
>too episodic
This might be the laziest criticism ever.
>>135861599
How exactly?
>>135858159
It has aged about as well as other anime of the time, you just haven't watched enough.
does anyone remember a few years ago a really high end looking CGI clip of Unit-01 going on a rampage?
>>135861665
It says absolutely nothing. What does "too" episodic mean in this context? Everything in those episodes are connected to prior events, tie into the overarching story, flesh out characters and the setting.
>>135857001
Obviously. Back then it wasn't 'cool' to hate everything yet.
These days - Eva would be called psuedo-intellectual fedorashit, Recettear would be sinister SJW propaganda, and Kenshin would be considered a shitty Mary Sue and his series discarded as such.
I can't speak for others, but personally I miss those simpler, lighter times.
>>135857001
>What do you think /a/'s reaction to Eva would be today?
The same as it ever was. Always, and forever.
>>135862084
Well some of the episodes feel like they were "monster of the week" type plots. That's what it means in this context as well as in most others.
>>135861561
>episode 21
Oh man, the ride is only starting.
>>135862251
I'd advise not cribbing what other people say since they're usually parroting idiots.
>>135862325
The ride starts in episode 15. Episode 18 is when we go off course. 21 on is when we derail and burn up in the wreckage.
>>135857001
After rewatching it, I didn't think much of EoE. I think a lot of the punch was lost in shock value, which of course isn't as effective in a second viewing.
In contrast, the last epsiodes in NGE were a lot more enjoyable with the context of EoE. I preferred them ending the second time around. Everything was still as enjoyable as the first viewing, though.
But if you're asking /a/ in general, they'd hate it because it would be popular.
>>135860391
Do it now you fucking faggot. I seriously find it hard to believe that you've watched over 300 anime but not one of the biggest and most influential anime in Japanese history though. That's like saying you like classical music and have listened to works by over 300 composers but have never even listened to Beethoven.
>>135861971
Do you mean the animator expo thing?
>>135857116
>It hasn't aged well.
Who the fuck
>>135857001
> I was rewatching it and I couldn't help but think how everyone would just consider it fujo-pandering pseudo-intellectual shit
I'm pretty sure a lot of people thought it was a typical fanservice mecha series during the first few episodes.
>>135861400
>But yeah it's nowhere near the second coming of Christ like most /a/nons believe.
Pretty sure even Eva fans don't believe this. It's good. It's genuinely good, so credit has to be given where credit is due. But no one things it's this.
>>135862964
>I'm pretty sure a lot of people thought it was a typical fanservice mecha series during the first few episodes.
I honestly can't imagine how you would get that impression. You might get that impression during the middle arc, but the opening arc is fairly dark and not really fanservicey at all.
>>135862964
Fanservice would be if Shinji fucked someone
>>135861400
>But yeah it's nowhere near the second coming of Christ like most /a/nons believe.
Where does this meme come from? /a/ shits on NGE all the time, but not top rated MAL shit because we're M/a/L now.
>>135864037
You're a fucking idiot if you don't believe NGE is widely considered one of the most famous, influential and overall best anime of all time.
>>135861831
So its aged well
>>135862434
Thank you anon.
Finally someone stood up to this bs.
>>135862168
This. I wish anime never got mainstream. It made the community complicated.
Dumb opinions have probably always been around but not to that degree, I'd like to think.
Back in the day when anime was either kiddyshit or tentacleporn.
>>135862964
>>135863158
>I'm pretty sure a lot of people thought it was a typical fanservice mecha series during the first few episodes.
Didn't Anno get mad over the fact that people watched and liked NGE when it was airing because they liked the girls or something like that? I think it was in that interview where he says Asuka is cut (the irony)?
>>135857001
Look around now
Most of the posters on this website are underage anyway
so hot
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTLdbamgrWk
>This would be the #1 anime.
>>135862251
>Well some of the episodes feel like they were "monster of the week" type plots.
Because they were. But I don't see how thats bad.
>>135867817
>But I don't see how that's bad
Fine then. Don't take it as a criticism. Just take it as personal taste, I don't care.
>>135867918
No need to be salty anon we're just discussing cartoons
>>135859065
Literally one episode that's been completely blown out of proportion by a bunch of memeing faggots.
>>135857001
I imagine the board would be imploding when the final two episodes would air
>>135859024
>>135869524
I love this meme
>>135857001
you shouldn't even need to ask this question
if it's popular it's shit
if it's unpopular it's shit
