Wasn't bad, but wasn't good. Friend being gay was a fairly novel twist. His dressing up of the mystery was stupid, and the way they "solved" it didn't make sense even if you know music and moon. Mysteries that try to go with the Sherlock Holmes "I am a fucking wizard" approach but don't have high stakes at all times just fall flat and get annoying. Also, most of the characters are pretty bland. Hopefully the drama doesn't get too heavy. Chika being a tomboy and making Haru miserable were the best parts.

I think it's more like there has to be some kind of conflict going on. There has to be other things going on besides romance. With sports or fighting series there's plot and non-romantic character interaction that gives the viewer a broader understanding of the character's personalities. If it's like "oh, I love you please notice me" then that's not very interesting.
