Hey, I just started season 3 as well. Quite enjoyed season 1 by turning my brain off, season 2 was worse, something REALLY rubbed me the wrong way at the first episode of 3.
Of course it's just a dumb political plot to advance the romcom aspect. You shouldn't expect much from it. But did they really just do this?
The war that had been built up for the past two seasons was just SOLVED OFF SCREEN. What happened to that flying dragon captain that they saved? Why did you introduce that character if he's not going to do anything? What happened to the sexy villain and what happened to her fucking important ring? Does the queen not care that a huge amount of her troops rebelled? She didn't even react to that. I guess brainwashing is okay, whatever.
And the characters. I thought Saito had something gong for him but now he just switches between two flat personalities: "I'm a dumb kid who loves tits" and "I'LL SCREAM AT YOU BECAUSE I'M SERIOUS. WHAT IS HONOR WHAT IS ARISTOCRATS I DON'T UNDERSTAND"
Agnes is cute and made the second season worth it. I don't think I can go on, fucking terrible as a romcom and a fantasy. Maybe the LN is better.

S1 and S2 are entertaining. S3 is bad. S4 is rushed, but not bad. Louise is HOT in all seasons no matter what.
If you like the setting, cast, and plot though then it's better to read the LN that does everything better.

S3 is where it doesn't even pretend like it wants to have a plot anymore and tosses it all out of the fucking window.
The LNs are a little better about the characters and the plot, but they're all still plagued and held down the the fact that it's a fucking harem. Right when the characters are making some progress or something is about to happen, A TYPICAL HAREM SCENE HAPPENS and it's back to motherfucking star.
Queen voicedbySaber's little row with Saito actually breaks out into heavy drama that goes on for several chapters. They resolve it, and then they close it with a fucking harem joke.
The maid that has nothing to do with the plot? Yeah, they drag her around, specifically for harem horseshit. Even in the anime, they have her try to use a love potion on Saito, and nobody calls her out on it.
You've got to have a tsundere attitude towards this show, because it's going to let you down every now and then.
If you're going to continue, I'd honestly just suggest kipping S3 entirely. If you can't take it, drop out now, because the anime don't get that much better.
