I think if you legitimately "suffer" through the first then you probably won't enjoy the rest. Hell, an enjoyment of the first actually goes a long way in building an appreciation for what the second does. That said, don't give up on it. Revisit it later on to see if you like it, because it is genuinely one of the best animated tv shows ever made.
