First nine episodes were a sorta failed remix of DB classic, but the rest is a worthy, and fitting conclusion to the series
I'm enjoying Super. I wasn't hoping for much, I was disappointed when I heard BoG and RoF would be the first two arcs and that sorta sucks, but I am mostly just enjoying seeing all the characters again. Seeing Ginyu again was great, seeing how the characters act and interact in the SoL episodes are great, seeing Piccolo be an Uncle, etc, I love it all so much. It's not as good as Z or DB, but I'm enjoying it for very different reasons.

To be honest I appreciate that GT did't shit on the rest of the characters like Super is doing. You could say it ruined Trunks and Goten, but I am salty when dbs shows Goten and Trunks excited with the prospect of fights having in mind Toriyams is going to drop that plot for them and make them sloppy when it comes to train, having in mind as well that in dbo he made them actual martial artist. Its the ultimate reason that, despite everyone, myself included, wanting this to be a true fighting manga, with hardcore set levels and tiers, it isn't.
Its a comedy series that added fighting into it to make money, and spiraled into what was basically a full blown shonen fighter, with the last arc returning to some of its comedic routes, and super trying to balance them.
As much of a "cop out" as it is, the series just works better when you don't think about it too hard.

I'm gonna be completely honest. I've watched the entirety of Dragonball and the one the part I prefer over all of them is DBZ. I know it's cool over here to call anyone who liked the more serious parts of DB a mexishit but I will always prefer tension and drama over comedy when it comes to anime.
Japanese media is just not funny to me in any way. That's the reason I usually avoid SOL and comedy anime. Comedy in anime usually boils down to slapstick or the same old romantic comedy tropes that's been repeated in other shows a billion times over. The reason I got into anime in the first place was because I Japanese cartoons are much more likely to weave in dramatic tension in their stories while western stuff is usually 90% comedy 10% drama. So if DBS is gonna be mostly DB style comedy over DBZ style shounen fighting I'm most likely gonna drop it. we'll see.

I think Super is more guilty of this than GT. Yeah, GT mishandled a lot of fucking concepts, characters, and even fights, but it actually dared to bring Trunks and Pan along for the ride at the start, Uub getting a fight scene (even though he jobbed), and even Gohan, despite not being ultimate/mystic was still a significant threat when possessed by Baby. Besides that, the series was 10+ years after DBZ ended, and all of the characters have settled down and shit.
It's been like 10+ since GT came out and ended. The writers should fucking know better and should actually be putting some fucking effort into this series. They intentionally chose this safe zone of starting off right near the end of DBZ, where it makes even less sense for some characters to be so weak.
If GT's story came out to day, you know who would be on that ship? Goku, Vegeta, Bulma and Krillin for comedic relief.

Definitely can't argue about Beerus and being inserting past events. You're absolutely right there. I think a part of the reason I like him is because he shits on a lot of the series. I swear I'm not trying to be "super edgy" but I think he's a fun character to be in the comedy/fighting series that Super is/is becoming. I said in an earlier post that Super is basically Toriyama doing what he wants, which includes not really caring about anything that is "established".
