What do you guys do with leeches? I have a few piling up and I don't want to just throw them back in without doing anything different with them.

Write them in your notebook fifty times, you bitch.
I also custom-study all leeches every day (with them suspended).

Oh shit I forgot to censor the nipple
RIP me
I'm starting to think extensive listening is better than extensive reading. Reason being, with reading it gets easy to kind of simplifying word readings, like I just noticed I was reading 問う as "tuu" to save time, that can add up to problems long-term. With listening, you're getting pure language, but with reading, you gotta filter through your kanji goggles and gaijin pronunciation.

sorry if this question gets asked a lot, if I wanted to buy raw LN what would be the best shops? Both for actual copies and ebbok versions. I bought a few with amazon but shipping is really expensive, and it doesn't let me download ebooks unless I lie about my kindle being in Japan.

>>135428583
> I know people who have N1 in the test but cannot speak or understand Japanese at all.
Is it that easy? I kind of want to do the test because I want to take up a career in translation.
>>135432107
I think that was a lie, actually. The JLPT N1 is fairly "difficult" in the sense it really does test real Japanese, you absolutely will not be able to pass it if you don't know the Japanese. At most someone could grind 10,000 words and kanji with flashcards and try to scrounge up 40 points from guessing, but I doubt that. Also, someone may be able to pass the reading / vocab / kanji sections but fail the listening, and thereby understand Japanese but be unable to communicate with it, but that is fairly fringe and I don't think too likely. So, I think she is lying.
>>135432187
Why do you keep reposting that picture?
It has nothing to do with N1.
>>135432218
N1 = Japanese
That image = Japanese
I see a pretty clear relationship.
>>135432187

>>135432832
Being able to pass N1 is a necessary but not sufficient requirement for knowing Japanese.
>>135432832
I think it's more that people think it may be like N5 where you can scrape by and pass while actually knowing very little about Japanese. When in truth, it is far from that.

Jpod101 has better ones as long as you just extract their scripted dialogues dialogues.

>use skip reviews every day
>never have to do any reps, yet still learns Japanese
Feels good. Who said Japanese was hard?
>>135438402
I'm talking about the scripted dialogues that are done by professional voice actors.
If you're talking about whatshisname -- Peter -- I totally agree. Fuck Peter. Naomi-sensei sound pretty kawaii though.
>>135438400
This is the best thing since RTK.
>>135438400
This one sure is stupid. It would make more sense if you could move ALL your rewievs forward by a day if you didn't happen to have time to do reps that day
Does anyone have a good estimate of how many words you'd need to learn to get fluent in a reasonable amount of time? I know most grammar and kanji at this point but my vocab has just gone out the window since I stopped studying seriously about 2 years ago.
If you did 10 words a day, vs 4 words a day, how far would you get?

It made me wonder how many people aren't studying at a decent pace and should just give up, or study harder. Myself included.
>>135438400
This is quite tempting.
>>135438808
At least 20000.
You aren't going to get anywhere with 4 words a day.

I think 6,000 - 10,000 vocabulary is the "conversational" level where you can follow most novels and television while a relatively degree of comprehension (assuming you also know grammar + have done listening practice). I'm at that level and can read most books and watch most anime so that's what I'm basing it on. That would be 2.7 years at 10 words a day or 6.85 years at 4 words a day. In reality, reading practice + kanji will boost you a lot. That's not very long (2.7 years - 1 year due to reading practice gains = 1.7 years) in my opinion.

Neither are going to learn Japanese at this rate.

What would you suggest?
I would think 10-15 words/day in addition to an hour or so of reading would get someone to a decent place of understanding.
>>135439272
50 words a day with a minimum of 8 hours of reading.
