I thought the same too. Not that Owari was particularly boring, but that this show is literally all dialog and about 15 frames. Have the number of frames dropped since the first few seasons, or am I just becoming more aware of it? Memory tells me this show had a little more more going on that just talking at a desk for hours on end.
So what's the deal with Ougi? I never understood her character. She seems like nothing more than a device to move the plot forward, that the writers were too lazy to pen themselves.

Every once in a while I have to rewatch bake to rekindle my love for the series. It's the only season that's a legitimately good anime in its own rightuntil kizu comes out, probably. The rest of the series is just OK, same flavor as bake but not as high quality.
The change in director is probably to blame. The drop in directorial quality is easy to spot watching nise directly after bake.

The director change is definitely to blame. Bit of a shame since I actually really like most of the monogatari seasons after Bake and know they could have been much better executed if Oishi was helming it.
On the bright side, Kizu is going to finally come out which Oishi has been busy with for the past 5 years or so, along with SHAFT's best animators. So that'll look incredible at the very least.

I admit, Shinobu Mail bored me to the point where I skipped over the entire Shinobu vs. Kanbaru confrontation. But the first 2 arcs were goddamned incredible. I honestly can't choose between Ougi or Sodachi as the best Owarigirl.
