Hopefully excluding the animeonlys will cut down on the cancer.

What was your favorite two page spread?

Do you think any artists either improved significantly or dropped the ball hard?

Any new entries you've enjoyed significantly?

What was you're overall MOTY?
>>
Talking only about manga, or chapters released this year in Japan? You're going to have to be a bit more specific about your criteria for MOTY?

More particularly, I'm not sure how much manga is in English from this year. Or how many Japfags there are here. It's not really a promising number.

Voynich Hotel would have to be my winner.
It's been quite a long journey and it was a fantastic read all the way through.

I read a bunch of yuri shorts this year too but I don't remember most of them because of my shitty memory.

>quite a long journey
Full of 12 page chapters. Fucking Dowman. I dumped quite a few of them through the years. But look for Dowman fags these days, and it's a hell of a lot harder. /a/ and manga seem to be less and less of a thing, much to my own dismay. I'm glad I got to see the end with some of you fags though.
>>
I've only recently been reading more manga aside from shitty harems ones that I happened to pick up a long time ago and still follow for some reason.
My most recent favorite is Mahoutsukai no Yome.
>>
>>135294051
Primarily chapters released this year, in context with how it fits in with what preceeded it (stuff like consistency and foreshadowing)
>>135294090
Mah nigga, it's absolutely in my top five, not sure about MOTY but its in the running. Didn't go in with high expectation due to having read Vide and Weight lovers previously and dropping them.
>>

87 Clockers then. Followed probably by Dungeon Meshi. I was quite annoyed to find that an overclocking manga wasn't being scanlated, despite selling quite well in Japan. Happyscans, although not the best scanlators in the world, tend to pick up some of the more neglected series, although mostly historical. I'm glad they picked up this one though. This past year of releases, and catching up to Japan has been really good and this latest arc or so, the MC has really shined. I can't really compare it to Nodame or anything, but I think it's good.

Dungeon Meshi is probably a no-brainer. I enjoyed Kui Ryoko's other series before /a/ latched onto the series. Saw the threads, got reeled in like everyone else.

Mob Psycho might have made an appearance, but the latest arc hasn't really delivered so much. It's not terrible, but it hasn't been as great as the earlier ones and consistency is really one of the things that breaks a series.

That kind of makes me sad because I loved the drills.

The fanbase seems to have finally died out mostly. God they got pretty obnoxious at some points. Honestly, I don't know why it just keeps going and going. There's only so long before something goes stale, but then you still have fags who keep following like it's the holy gift from God.

What's wrong with Happyscans?
>>
>>135293792
Memeing aside, i heavily enjoyed the conclusion of the MA arc in One Punch Man (webcomic). The redraw feels really slow at the moment, loved Zenko's introduction though.
>>135294564
Absolutely agree on 87 Clockers. I picked it up after a mention in a OPT and i was hooked insanely quick.
Agree on mob psycho too, pacing seems naff, hopefully it picks up soon.
>>
>>135294709
Not that anon, but I like it because it's humorous at times. Unfortunately, it just feels like the author is delaying the current story forever because he has no idea what to do.
>>
>>135294726
There's the old, don't complain if you can't do better, but they make a good mess of things sometimes. For instance, they package rars with pages from other manga all the time (how the fuck does this happen?), their editing skills are pretty mediocre and they generally just typeset over stuff. Pretty sure there are some double translations, but overall, I am wholly happy that they exist.

Anyways, as for recent stuff, I only read Gamma this year, so by default I guess that would make it my MOTY. I mostly just read stuff from my backlog from years ago.

I keep losing track of what happened when. OPM was probably one of my favourites from last year, as well as possibly Silver Spoon. But lack of chapters really kills the interest. Still, I think I'm more of a OPM than a Mob fan.

That's probably quite true. But on the other hand, they don't really touch the same things that the official licensors do either necessarily. Scanlation seems to be dying in general though. I mean, Illuminati's Christmas releases this year were pretty belated. Dokuro was finished, but I don't know how many people were looking forward to it. I was meant to read it myself, but the backlog is long and endless.

Don't you just love your Crunchyroll translations?

Have you seen some of the garbage they shit out for manga? Blatantly wrong translations even compared to Niggastream. How can you fuck up that hard? The translations didn't even make sense at all. I mean, there's some stuff they still had from Jmanga, like Hotel Tantei Doll, that I'm glad got pulled out of limbo from Takao Saito, but hoarding all these series only to do nothing on them is just irritating. Like Crayon Shin Chan, they promised chapters regularly, and that is not what happened.

Hox and friends gathered a few slightly more recent things to form a chart. It's on there as well. You might like a few others on there. Knowing Hox though, he put disproportionately too much historic manga on there.

Yeah, I got it from that chart. I'm also about to read Innocent based on some pages I saw on a OPT.

What happened this year

- Teppu author recovered from Japanese Cold, and wrapped the manga while she could
- +Tic Neesan got picked up after being dropped for a year
- Tomo-chan has been a daily favorite

(Select) Manga I'm following that is somewhat alive, in order of preference

- Hinamatsuri
- Dagashi Kashi
- Aho Girl
- Chihiyafuru
- Gokicha!!
- Watamote
- Hidamari Sketch
- Imori 201
- EG Maker

I wish Kill Me Baby and Tonari no Nanige-san got picked up again (along with the hundreds of other manga that I have dropped to being dead).

Also Dansan Joshi (pic related) looks interesting.
>>
>>135295574
Well good. Part of the reason I ever respond to manga recommendation threads that die with no replies is to give the illusion that /a/ isn't a complete shithole with no taste, if you go by whatever is up all the time like OPT. Charts actually used to be posted quite a lot, but now they aren't.

Dungeon menshi
Dagashi Kashi
Kyokou Suiri
Donyatsu
Yuusha ga Shinda
The New Kurosawa (how did i not know there was a sequel/continuation till recently?)
Kakegurui
Tenkuu Shinpan
Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari
Houseki no Kuni

To name a few.

I guess i wasn't too disappointed with last order since i liked the way the battle flowed and some of the new character designs worked. Was always a sucker for stuff like the plasma cutter and everything that happened in roller ball. I mean the railgun launcher arm guy was cool... i guess.
>>
I've been binge reading Liar Game for the past 2 weeks. It's pretty brilliant so far but I hear the end is disappointing. I'm honestly not even that bothered, rushed endings are par for the course for most manga. I've also been interested in reading or watching One Outs later. I'm curious how the anime handles all the inevitable game theory infodumps, I'd hate having to rewind every 30 seconds.

My favorite spread is the one with Munsu and Sando towards the end of Shin Angyo Onshi.

Finally finished Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin by Yas. Absolutely superb.

This year was good since we got Showa: A History of Japan by Mizuki and also his Hitler manga. Publishers went crazy with Kon Satoshi manga. We got his Opus and Dream Fossil oneshot collection. And also his collaboration with Oshii Seraphim 266613336 Wings which was best out of the three because Oshii.

Considering more "fun" elements, Ultraman manga by Shimizu and Shimoguchi is really enjoyable and visually very dynamic. Their panelling reminds me of Yasuhiko's which is the greatest praise. Durarara!! LN also began publication by Yen Press and it's fun. Since it's japanese LN the prose is utterly terrible but the story is interesting and characters are mostly fun.

In Japan department, Berserk got six chapters and we're finally out of the boat. Igarashi Daisuke began his new series in Afternoon. Takahashi Tsutomu began his Black-Box series in Afternoon which he was desperately trying to serialize in last six years or so. Yamagishi Ryouko made her first appearance in Morning magazine with Joan of Arc manga called Revelation. Sakamoto Shinichi changed magazines with his Innocent manga. panpanya published another single-volume manga. This time under josei brand.

Iwaaki Hitoshi, my favourite, began new Sengoku-jidai manga in collaboration with Muroi Daisuke. This is his second collaboration in his life (he never had any assistants, not even for tones, the only time someone helped him was his editor for Kiseijuu manga when otherwise Iwaaki wouldn't make the deadline so the editor helped him applied grey tones.). Hopefully it ends better that the fiasco with his Black Jack - Aoki Mirai manga collaboration.

For the sad stories, Mizuki Shigeru died. Tatsumi Yoshihiro, too. Two gekiga masters. Also, we hadn't got any Emanon this year. Hayami Jun is still missing.

The new series is called Designs and it's a sequel to Umwelt. Or better said, Umwelt acts as a prologue to Designs

> Are you some resident scanlator or something?
I scanlate for very small foreign group. It's basically just me doing everything and my good mate language editor. We have only a handful of releases per years. I mostly enjoy reading and analysing manga for my own pleasure. I noticed that the more manga I've read the slower and slower I'm reading paying more attention to the medium itself, like panelling, story and narrative structures, picture positioning, et cetera. I understand Japanese but not perfectly so while I'm reading some things in Japanese and I'm paying attention Jap manga industry, I'm way more skilled and natural in English so I always appreciate good ENG physical release of a good manga. English's not my mother tongue but in my country the only manga released will probably be only Naruto.

> What does this mean exactly?
Hayami Jun is an ero-guro oddity. He came like a storm in 80s. Published some oneshots and then dissapeared in early 90s reportedly to pursue "a more stable salaryman carreer". Then he came back in 00s and every so often published some short work. The last one has been published in 2011 and Hayami has been quiet since. He's my favourite ero-guro mangaka. Especially his early oneshots are absolutely fascinating. He manages to combine brutal imagery with psychologically disturbing events and mentally breaking down characters and somehow manages to make this combination end up in almost poetic fashion. His stories are brutal, sexual and disturbing but they never feel like a low fun created just for the sake of ventilation of inner stress. His ero-guro manga somehow feel like profound art. Though, I realize how weird and maybe even stupid that may sound.

As posted by another person in this thread, and I agree, Hiramoto has no idea where to take the manga. After the school festival, the UGSC vs AGSC will have wrapped up, and there's no further conflicts left other than the wet t-shirt contest (aside from Hana vs Chiyo). After the relative success of the anime, he is probably being pressured to keep it running for another 2 or 3 years. Do you think Prison School has another 50-100 chapters of content?
>>
>>135299587
>to pursue "a more stable salaryman carreer"
I assume because mangaka pays worse than janitor probably. I don't really know many stories of mangaka just disappearing off too much. The other way around, you gets lots of people quitting their jobs to be mangaka. There's Hideo Azuma, but then you hear all about his adventures as a bum.

You do seem to know your stuff quite well.

>>135299772
If anyone actually looked into those Ax collections for instance, or a lot of the translated gekiga for that matter, they would find some very very offensive things. They're pretty mid-tier honestly. Bad groups actually get very bad, very fast. If it were actually bad, more people would probably call them on it, but even I don't have the heart most days.

Last week. Weekend /a/ seems to do better with manga than on the weekdays. Frankly the holidays are doing better overall.

Hopefully never. The only reason threads are good is because they aren't that common. As soon as you start playing them constantly, you'll get the same garbage generalshit mostly about waifus that is currently plaguing /a/'s anime population. Not to mention the fact that 24/7 JUMP threads for everything is probably going to be a reality.

/a/ sort of needs its mangafags whether to spoil people out of spite or whatever, and mangafags still get its garbage flushed out most days. It could probably do with more manga threads, but it is what it is.

Thats not the problem. The problem is that there are a lot of newfags who don't bother to lurk before posting.

I get why people say we don't need one, but if I want to try discussing anything untranslated then I can expect my thread to die pretty quick. Even with another board I wouldn't expect fast threads, but even if there were only 10 or so people following the threads wouldn't die within 5 posts. Even translated kirara stuff that doesn't yet have an anime dies fast occasionally.

The eternal jump/whatever threads already happen too sadly. They're not really doing anything wrong rules wise but 24/7 threads get bad pretty quick.
