One of the little things I liked about CCS was that the staff actually bothered to give Sakura a wide variety of "combat" outfits as opposed to just one (with possible "upgrades" as the series progressed.) This is doubly impressive in a genre that tends to rely heavily on stock footage to save money.

I've only seen the anime and and read a little bit about the mango, but I'm guessing that most people here favor the anime because that's the version they were exposed to first.
From what I've gathered it's similar to Sailor Moon in that the anime takes the same basic plot outline of the manga but changes around some stuff and adds a shitload of filler (there were 19 Clow cards in the manga and 52 in the anime, though even the anime skimmed over a few of them between seasons 1 and 2,) but it's good filler so that doesn't really count against it.
I wish I could wipe my memory of the series so I could watch it fresh again, it's one of my favourites, I can't think of a more completely solid anime series.

I watched it early back in fall.
God tier show. Ending was perfect. Made me cry because I mostly just watch modern anime which either doesn't resolve anything or resolves it horribly and leaves me feeling hollow.
CCS says fuck that and gives an amazing conclusion. Made me feel warm inside for the first time in a while.

If you have a quick gander round the web at the actual cels for the show you'll see that the series was originally drawn to be that bright and the ancient telecine's desaturated the colour.
If you're watching it every year in that state then you're just continuously reasserting that it's the 'right' version in your mind.
I personally prefer the blu-ray transfer because it looks sweet as, and thus leapt on it as soon as it appeared however I will respect your choice because the show underneath is the same and it's lovely.
