Well the story itself is very generic so far, since it's basically just defeat the evil overlord. But the characters make it worthwhile and the backstory is actually very complex, especially regarding who actually started the conflict, what happened with the Soul King and if the Shinigami are really the good guys or the bad guys. Though so far Kubo refused to explain anything and the past has not much effect on the present story yet.

When comparing One Piece with Bleach, I noticed that people are far more impatient with Bleach, than with One Piece. No one's asking where Marco is, even though he didn't appear for over 200 chapters. While in Bleach many are complaining about the absence of Ryuken, Isshin, etc or even Nel who was last seen some 30 chapters and that Kubo simply forgot about them, even though it's more likely, that he wants to show them or reveal their pupose in the story later.

People really dont know how to read charts here. You have to remember, these are all overall sales. 2010-2011 was riding off the backlog sales due to the Strong World and Marineford boost that happened in 2009. Like how NNT was able to best out SnK this year because of its anime boost backlog sales

He introduces something interesting going on and then drops it for awhile and distracts you with other interesting things, before he brings that plot point back for the payoff. Lola's vivre card, Luffy sending Big Mom bombs in a chest by accident, Buggy's reaction to Luffy stealing his Giants, Weevil vs Whitebeard remnants, BB pirates vs Revolutionaries, Kaido and Kidd alliance are all still kind of in the back of your mind or forgotten while people are distracted by Jack and arguing if he and the minks are admiral level or some shit, or what's going on with Sanji. We probably just have reached the half-way point of this arc. This arc is supposed to be longer than the Arrancar saga and there are seven of nine days left. Bleach is still high-selling. It currently is number 21. Bleach's slaes are a shadow of it's former past, but even this shadow is bigger than most manga. Also there was a poll in Japan a year ago, about which manga endings people are most anticipating. Bleach was 15th place, higher than Berserk and the only manga from after 2000 in the ranking.
