I always liked Rose of Versailles more but Ashita no Joe 2 is a very close second to being the best anime.

I never watched the anime, but I read the manga and liked it a lot (Huge Ippo fan, here, if you want to know).

My only reason I don't watch the first season is because of the shitty quality DVD rips. I'm used to watching old anime in BD, like RoV or other Dezaki shows, so that's a huge turnoff for me. That's why I only watched the second season.
